Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid calls his Republican counterpart's bluff, and wins:
"What we have is here a case of Republicans not taking yes for an answer," Mr. Reid replied as Mr. McConnell began a filibuster of his own bill.
H/t Joe Sonka of Leo Weekly, who's got the video.

Yes, step right up and ride the McConnell Carousel - an endless circled loop with a menagerie of make believe animals, and guaranteed to give you an endless up and down ride going nowhere!
Mitch McConnell is an embarrassment to our way of life, our need for efficient government and our ability to sustain our great nation as a haven for free and liberty-minded individuals!
If left up to him, McConnell would filibuster his own mother if he didn't like the supper she offered him at her dinner table!
He has lost, on his very own, any credibility on any political issue he speaks to as he has proven too many times by now his recalcitrance to be an actual democratic representative for his great state, and would rather serve as a stiletto in the back of our bodypolitik! -Kevo
OMG!!!!
I just saw Rand Paul on Kudlow ( I know I cant stand his show ) say he wouldn't filibuster any tax increase the Dems want in the Senate and he'll vote no and the Congress R's would vote present and give the President what ever he wanted and when the economy crashes Dems would get blamed and they'd have to own the mess!!! He said he was telling Harry Reid to bring it up for a vote for 51 votes!
If common sense is for it, McConnell is against it, unless of course it was common sense that he proposed. Then it must've not been common sense, which means, of course, that it didn't make sense in the first place.
Yup, I've got it.
"Mitch McConnell"
Please note: the above not intended to be a factual statement.
Seriously, can you imagine how the President feels when this happens over and over? I mean, what a temperament he must have. I'd be frothing at the mouth and plotting terrible things............I'd have to go to confession every day...they'd have to tie me up in the oval office and keep me from .........whatever!
After the first year, I'd have torn out all my hair.....my pure white hair, thanks to Mitch McConnell! How can he stand it? Our president is impressive!
At least we can take comfort in knowing that this was probably as painful for McConnell as when a dog finally catches his own tail.
Lord knows it looked as silly.
Exactly how dysfunctional is someone when they object to their own proposals? Maybe McConnell is suffering from paranoid schizophrenia?
He knew what he doesn't know he knew but was sure he didn't know it before he, who was him, told him it was so. Mr McConnell your white jacket is ready sir.
.
When McConnell proposed this he counted on a Republican being elected President, NOT Obama being Re-Elected President ...
which shows how the Republican creates their own reality and then proceeds as though their fiction is real.
That in itself is a pathology, .... the hell of it is that the Republican making a proposal then being against their own creation has become so common that its almost not worth mentioning.
.
Teapubs have been voting against their own bills for the past 4 years. It's not a bug, it's a feature. If any dem or Obama likes it, they gotta vote it down!
Exactly, Phenner. (#3.2)
They've done this over and over! As soon as Obama agrees to a bill, they vote it down, even if it is their bill. Even if it would help the country.
This tells you all you need to know about their motives and mentality. Vote them out in 2014. They don't deserve the paycheck we give them. Fire their a$$.
Oh, for gawd's sake.
I have this idiot for a Senator. I can't wait to work for the dem that is going to beat him in the next election. I'll be retired and have plenty of time to work the phones
Dear "John"
I'd feel more comfortable with your posts if you'd use a picture of Fonzie in a leather coat holding a water ski rope!
-Kevo
Kevo - are you saying you'd prefer an image of "jumping the shark" because that's what McConnell and the repubs are doing, or do you have something against the awesome Stephen Colbert? You do know he's a fake conservative on his show, right?
I'm just saying I am more comfortable with truthiness when it comes wrapped in leather! -Kevo
I prefer mine wrapped in a sesame seed bun...
Say Hello to Ashley Judd
John, #5,
I have Pat Toomey, PA. He voted against the treaty for the disabled.
I'll be working the phones.
He's my idiot Senator from HELL TOO! We're going to try and run Ashly Judd against him!
The president needs to attach anything he wants to it and take him up on it-attache the jobs bill, attach the FAA upgrades, attach the infrastructure bills and the airport expansions, and the power plants and dams...
I can one up you - I have Corker and Alexander. Both of whom voted against the treaty for the disabled. This state in which I currently reside is full of idiots.
Thanking you in advance.
GOTP holding America hostage day1416, and counting...
nomoremagicalthinking,
1,416 days so far and two more years to go. OMG. I don't think I can take it.
"He's got a turtlehead poking out"! He is such an ass....
Sometimes, I just don't....
OMFG, does this surprise ANYONE?
#9,
No. I've been paying attention for four long years.
Two more to go. Then vote these a$$ho&es OUT.
Uhhhh lets see.... Ashley Judd or Turtleriffic Mitchell....
I wonder how Reid kept a straight face.
Just think what could have happened if Filibuster reform was already in place.
He didn't keep a straight face. In the sound bite, you could see the smile. He did a good job not laughing out loud.It was like Obama's face when he walked into the "terrorist" statement in the debate.
Please ,Please bring in Filibuster reform. The sight of this fool talking for hours & hours about the foolishness of his own proposal .......well ; can I just say that I might pay good money just to see that.....hell ; I might forgo paying the rent just to see that.
McConnell is a complete waste of human life. Sorry, but this inhuman jerk is one of the most annoying twits of the Republican party.
Last night I was thinking of what the Grover N., Fox News, the Republican and their idiot Tea Party are...
Remember the scene in ALIENS when Sigourney Weaver figures out that Paul Reiser is the one who tried to get her and Newt to carry the alien offspring??? She slams him in the wall and says something very telling about money and greed. Watch the scene.
Good for Reid... and I hope the Dem's give those goofballs a rough time.
Next on Fox News... I can hear this now... :)
Jango, #13, I hate McConnell. I know the scene you mean. Yeah....
That movie was so scary; almost as scary as Mitch McConnell.
Reid came alive with his salvos directed at Romney and now this jewel. I'm impressed. I wonder if Obama held him down the last 3 years in order to do his one purple nation thing.
I sent a note to my reps here in NY a while back to get rid of him if he didn't grow a spine soon. I had to eat my words and send another note telling them to keep feeding him whatever it was they were feeding him and give some to the other dems, too!
he could cluster f()K an single person circle jerk even, as his own pivot man.
I hope that Reid and the Dems get the wake up call and make some bigger changes in the filibuster rule. The Dems can easily justify their actions and I doubt that the public will be opposed to the changes. Republicans think they are going to be able to make a big noise with the changes in the filibuster rules, but Dems have them over the barrel. The only fools who will be screaming about the changes will be the Tea Party astroturfers.
Proving the need for filibuster reform on an almost-daily basis.
Admit it...we are used to seeing the Dems in such disarray.
Jan Brewer decides to tour Afghanistan, McConnell filibusters his own proposal, the GOP rejects a UN Treaty modeled after US law that would support the disabled...I wouldn't be surprised if the GOP attempted to outlaw Christmas next week as a ritual of the 47% Moocher class who just want "gifts."
You forgot the part about punching a reporter ... on camera.
DC Sessions, #18,
With a little luck, the Taliban will be waiting for her. Maybe they'll take her hostage.
Hey, I can dream....
Is Jan Brewer expecting Arizona to pay for her trip? Hum, just how would she justify that expense?
McConnell is up for re-election in 2014. What scares me is that he will be primary-ed by someone worse than him!
hope that he is primaried by some whacko even worse. hope the whacko wins the primary. he won't have the connections or name recognition to win the general. of course, this assumes the dems run a decent candidate. if not, vote for the whacko. either way, mcconnell won't be minority leader of the senate.
Ycaintuseait, #19,
Are you saying there is someone WORSE than him? Or are you just trying to scare me?
This is a new low even by GOP standards to propose a bill then object to your own bill. Especially such an important bill that effects the debt limit which we saw last year when the GOP held raising this hostage the effect on the financial markets and down grading of the USA rating resulted from this. That they would again use raising the debt limit hostage and as leverage to get what they want. I have to ask what did McConnell even bother to propose the bill in the first place and call for a vote only to immediately turn around and filibuster his own bill? Does he realize the effect this has as we careen to the fiscal cliff? it's time McConnell was replaced and someone more reasonable someone who has the country in mind and at heart rather then personal agenda that conflicts with the majority of the US population and continues to put the interests of the top 2% ahead of the 98%
#20, Don't you get it? For four years they've been doing this. They care about nothing but their wealthy contributors, and ruining Obama. Read, IT'S EVEN WORSE THAN IT LOOKS.
It is.
Shall we start a petition for Bill Clinton to move to Kentucky and run against Mitch?
Bubba can raise a ton of money... imagine the debates.... ;-)
Sounds good to me. I could listen to Bubba all day.
These conservative Republicans, like McConnell, could f#*k up a one car funeral.
We all need to get busy on the phones come 2014. Get them OUT! If they got their way, we'd be a third world country. The founding fathers would never recognize America.
Just bit of advice, when picking up a snapping turtle, to grasp the sides well back of center, and also be careful to remember that when picking him up, he will startle you by emptying his bladder on you.
More advice; don't pick up a turtle, just step over it!
Isn't there a way to impeach these guys for obstruction or just flat out not doing their job? This is ridiculous. I would say It sounds like high school but then I would be insulting a ton of high school kids.
No. A member of Congress can't be impeached. . They can only expel their own
Article 1Section 5 Clause 2 : "Each House may determine the Rule of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behavior, and, with the Concurrence of two-thirds, expel a Member."
I remember a few months back an AZ Tea Party member, Wes Harri,s wanted to recall McCain. Yelling on about the Constitution. Apparently he never read this part.
Eh. McConnell has always been a strange duck.
Shouldn't that be a strange turtle? ;-)
The turtle man got scared when he pulled his head out of his shell and the democrats didn't back down. Mitch should just go home and visit family in the Galapagos and stop playing games on the Senate floor he'll embarrass himself less
"Stop filibustering yourself!"
You'll go blind! :-D
