We'll have the latest on the Oregon mall shooting tonight. Here are the guests we have planned for the rest of the show pending further developments in that story:
- Mary Kay Henry, President of the Service Employees International Union
- Democratic Senator Tom Harkin from the great state of Iowa
- Jared Bernstein, senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and former economic policy adviser to Vice President Joe Biden

I posted but it hasn't shown up yet, and I had to register with some kind of wall thing... :/
What is going on?
I just want to know where Rachel is.
Marijuana should be scheduele III not I or even II, and hemp, which is not a drug, should be legalized immediatly.
I thought hemp was already legal. I found hemp milk @ th health food store and I bought it. Then where does hemp rope comes from? Or is it legal for the rope company only?
It's imported....illegal to grow here. Mostly because of lumber/paper lobbies going back almost 100 years.
It is necessary that Americans learn a lesson. They have to go back in time and learn why were unions given protection under federal law.
Abuses on the part of the employers used to be the norm. Most employers did not pay living wages and working conditions deteriorated to the point that workers would die because employers did not keep or maintained equipment.
We all have forgotten that it is trade workers who are in charge of our mechanical work in autos, airplanes, and are the ones whose family may serve our meals at restaurants, or clean our homes.
The GOP just have left all those who work at union offices: secretaries, office cleaners, data entry workers and customer care workers without pay. If the union does not get paid by the workers who are their members then how can they pay their employees.
The Bible says (Leviticus 19:13) . . .The wages of a hired laborer should not stay all night with you until morning.
(Malachi 3:5) 5 “And I will come near to YOU people for the judgment, and I will become a speedy witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against those swearing falsely, and against those acting fraudulently with the wages of a wage worker, with [the] widow and with [the] fatherless boy, and those turning away the alien resident, while they have not feared me,” YHWH of armies has said. . .
(1 Timothy 5:18) . . .“The workman is worthy of his wages.. . .
So if they work in negotiation for better wages for their members they deserve their wages.
Do not ALEC, the NFIB, AMA, ADA, AARP and all those lobbying organizations get paid by the dues paid by its members. All workers benefit from the work the union does. Employers that do not have union fear the workers will unionize and that fear makes them do the right thing. Now they will not fear. I know employers who will start by not paying for holidays or brakes.
No employer in the USA will do good to their employees out of the goodness of their heart. The greediness within man, the want for more will not let them. The only reason they are in business is profit.
Democrats gave a warning. GOP leaders were already shown to be liar and back stabbers. They do it even among themselves. So all those who are of the working class expect lower wages, no benefits and being fired for no reason just because the boss does not like you.
yes yes but
where is rachel?
Who knows. On Vacation some where. Or maybe she is sick today. I miss her too.
It's been days. Where is Rachel. I miss her terribly! Is she on vacation or what?
Okay, but is she announcing something to the effect at the beginning of her show or something? I mean, i seem to keep missing it...
The situation is that i am one of the walking wounded of too much exposure to male opinions, creative works and management. I love men, some of my best friends are men, and i have some sons and of course a beloved father but... but but but... I was raised on male authors, male artists, male politicians and leaders, male this and male that ad infinitum and i am sick sick sick of it...
Rachel is a breath of fresh air that clears the palate and actually makes it possible for me to endure male input in my life again. But she just keeps disappearing. And its not like we have all that much female punditry going on as it is.
Please, please, someone who works for the show... please tell us what is up, when she is going to be on and when she is not...
This is not a threat but i am starting not to tune in...
its sad really
If they tell you she won't be on...you won't tune in, that's bad for ratings.
yes but if they don't tell me, which is happening now, then i also won't tune in...
which is also happening now
: (
which is also bad for ratings.
and also bad for me
Did you not watch last night? so it seems you don't always tune in even if she is on?
I did not tune in last nite because i didn't KNOW she was going to be on and i was avoiding being disappointed by forgetting to tune in... then when i remembered and did tune it it was too late and i only caught the last 5 minutes.
: (
which is why i am now asking for them to tell us what is going on... when she will be on and when she won't, and why, like... a schedule... like, respecting us.
Then, knowing when she is on i can tune in... and knowing when she is not on i can steel myself sometimes to watch anyway...
but with them not telling me, i feel disrespected and thats alot of the male/female thing for me... when i feel unrespected i get confused and i don't like that. i start looking for men to tell me what is going on... i really don't like that... then i freak out and run run run away... i really really really don't like that
so i just want to be respected enuf to have them tell us when she is on rather than banking on us tuning in in the HOPES she will be on... thats profiting from something other than providing the actual product...
Just to be clear...I dont like it when shes not on either.....so in reality Im with you.
Lala, Buster...
I have a hunch what might be going on with Rachel... I don't know if you are aware of it or not, but last week, our Rachel was nominated for an award most journalists never get a chance at... The Grammy, for Best Spoken Recording, for the Audiobook for her book, Drift... Michelle Obama and Bill Clinton are vying for the same Grammy...
Chances are, she's on a book tour, selling her book and publicizing her Grammy nomination... It's important for this time of year, given the Christmas demand and all...
Re: Sen. Harkin's "filibuster fix":
Sen. Harkin's solution for fixing the filibuster (every 3 days, requiring fewer votes to overcome) is novel, but has two huge flaws IMHO.
One, it doesn't actually "fix" the problem, it simply "changes the pace" of obstruction. Much like Republican arguments against publicly declaring a date for military withdrawal from a conflict zone, all "the enemy" has to do is wait you out. Say the GOP has the majority, Harkin's rule means all the majority has to do is "wait you out" 12 days, turn a deaf ear, ignore your protests and even arguments against passage, then simply pass what might be some truly destructive legislation (see: Michigan yesterday) with a simple majority vote.
But more importantly (#2), PEOPLE NEED TO SEE WHO IS BEHIND THE OBSTRUCTION. Make them stand and talk for the world to see. Let them use that time to convince people of their point of view. Some laws really *SHOULD* require more than 51 votes. With Harkin's "fix", there is no bill (except what is defined in the Constitution) that couldn't be passed with just a simple majority.
When we live in a time when people want to put things like "Civil Rights" to a Majority Vote, the problem is not always the "time" it takes something to pass, but whether something should ever pass at all with a simple majority vote.
The term for what Senator Harkin suggests is ABLATIVE, referring to protection which decreases over time... I've been suggesting a similar scheme for months...
-----------------
It's true that requiring constant oration for the filibuster will not work... With 40+ Senators opposing a bill, they can continually 'tag' each other to continue the oration... Not only would it not work, it would stop the work of the Senate in its tracks...
Here is a better idea... Make the filibuster ABLATIVE... First, remove the first and third opportunities to filibuster a bill (beginning of debate and allowing the vote to occur)... Allow the filibuster to start debate to occur normally... If the Senate cannot get 60 votes to end the filibuster, the bill is put aside for a set period of time, say 2 weeks... When the Senate again takes up the bill, require 2 less votes to begin debate, 58 instead of 60... Each time the bill is considered, require 2 less than the last time... When it gets to the point of requiring a simple majority, if it can't get that, the bill is killed...
This allows the minority to stall a bill, but not kill it completely... If the minority cannot convince some of the majority in private in that time period to stall beginning the debate in public, they have to try to convince them in public to vote in their favour... No more stalling at that point... No more killing bills by a tyranny of the minority...
