The jewelry Newark Mayor Cory Booker mentioned on the show tonight that is made of gun parts and the proceeds of which go to furthering Newark's gun buyback program is called The Caliber Collection, offered by Jewelry with a Cause. If those sites are a little slow to load tonight, you can learn more in this profile and this recent feature in Vanity Fair.

Just in time for Christmas: A "Queen James" bible: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2249515/World-s-gay-bible-Special-Queen-James-edition-changes-translation-key-sex-sentences.html
OH , Yeah , This is really going to work , just like All of the rest of these laws have done in the past : OK , Now , these laws that have been passed in the past , Well , Why are there so many shootings taking place More and More these days If these laws and rules that have been implemented In the Past are So Effective and working and Functioning NOW ; WHY are there More and More and More Events of Slaughter STILL Happening , IF These gun restrictions and Regulations ARE Functioning and working ~~~ I Mean REALLY !? Hey , Sorry to say , but , they are NOT Working ! Obviously !
And why are these laws your whining about not working? Why rather simple the NRA buys politicians to repeal gun laws and make guns easier to get at the state level. In fact some red states guns are so easy to get that Mexican drug dealers can get young people to buy guns for them because gun laws are so lax that giving away a gun after buying it is not illegal.

The most effective of these laws, the Assault Weapons Ban, expired in 2004 so they are NOT all 'effective and working and functioning.' It is my personal view that the tools that enable someone to create such carnage SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED IN THE FIRST PLACE since a tool cannot be used if it does not exist. You mention what is not working but say NOTHING that resembles a solution. I have offered mine, we are waiting for yours. If you have none then do not denounce others.

Rachel, please read this, it is about Australia's gun ban and says so much that is pertinet.
Story Idea: Has the NRA Jumped the Shark?
I understand that nearly all of the Tea Partiers that the NRA endorsed in the last election lost.
Re: New Cause Bears not guns.,I am a regular person, a mother who lives in California. I am a nurse, a wife and artist as well I would like to raise social consciousness and awareness after the disaster and tragedy in Connecticut last week. The goal is for as many people as possible to buy, or preferably make bears that we can send to the surviving families, and surviving children of the horrible senseless shooting of innocent children. It would be ideal if these bears could arrive just before Christmas with a note to the effect of: " We will never forget. When feeling sad, hug this bear , in memory of those lost. Let this action cause you to spread more love in the world, and most of all help in preventing gun violence. We can start with Bear Making parties across the nation. The goal would be for people all over the country to provide a bear to each surviving child, families.parents who lost an only child, and the families of people who lost a husband or wife at the scene. We need to contact a public figure to promote our cause we need to have contact person in Connecticut who will provide us with an address to send all the bears to. From there, these bears be sent out the days before christmas, and . Christmas by the communities fire department, mayor’ office. We need a central location that we can mail the bears to. The mayors office, your office, the police station. the firs station. I am sure there will need to be security involved, and bears will need to be scanned to ensure they are safe - given the recent climate - it would be most prudent.I am looking for ideas, and for members who can help with this cause. We don’t have much time. Please direct people to my website, we don’t have much time. Let’ s end gun violence.Sincerely,Charlene Frischer.

PS. I realize that the lives lost are tragic, and a bear can never replace the loss of a loved one, but it is symbolic of love and compassion and we all need to show a little of that. In addition if they are made by our citizens it makes it all the more poignant and pertinent I am aware that gun sales go up after horrible events like these. It is the hope that the idea of doing something gentle can counteract the violence.

TRMS, the 3D copy machine. R's grabbin for straws and this is not a situation story. The drinks are showing up, btw on the broadcast. scantron forms are not an education as your head up your butt isn't either.
Sen-elect Murphy:
please include in your new mission making it easier to get effective mental healthcare than it is to buy a gun.

I'm a democrat but I also love my guns, but I would never vote republican just to avoid the assault weapons ban although I said I would in my comments yesterday. please forgive me; I was mad.
These horrible acts are happening so frequently with never an inkling as to why these young white men believe that the way to solve their problems is the shoot a bunch of six and seven year olds. Some one is brain-washing these people. Doesn't it seem just little too convenient that they either kill themselves or simply can't remember what happened. We are looking in the wrong direction folkes.
I've been posting this everywhere I can and also emailed the White House, Governor Cuomo and Mayor Bloomberg. I think we've got some simple laws to change or revamp to at least get started, and your interview with Mayor Booker tonight goes along so well with the research I read about and the things I'm thinking today. Here it is:
In addition to a revamped Assault Weapons Ban with closed up loop holes, we've gotta try to stop criminals from getting guns.
Everyone should read the link below. It will suddenly become glaringly obvious how a few laws could change a LOT of things about guns. The gun lobby and the NRA need to stop being the ones "in power" on this issue.
1) Corrupt dealers should be held responsible.
2) Friends family who buy guns for a criminal should be an accessory to the crime. Harsh? NO.No one should buy anyone a gun.
3) Background checks anywhere a gun is sold. EVERYWHERE. No exceptions.
4) Trace information should be easily accessible by law enforcement.
5) More funding for ATF.
6) Retain criminal background check information indefinitely.
7) Buying a gun should be as "hard" as buying a car. People should have to get a permit, watch an educational film, take a test, get a license and only then, buy a gun... and with each gun, it should have to be registered, just like a car. Licenses and registration should be subject to periodic renewals.

Thanks for listening Rachel! Love you and your show!
Is there any way one can make a country with over 300 million firearms more safe without actually starting to take specific types of weapons (including handguns) out of the hands of civilians?
Some things don't really lend themselves to half measures all that well.
Occamsgazer,
I believe Canada has roughly the same per capita rate of gun ownership as the US, and a much lower per capita rate of gun crimes.
It is my impression that the main difference is that Canada requires gun owners to obtain a license, giving the government a chance to screen for mental illnesses and such.
But I could easily be mistaken. Any Canadian gun owners out there wishing to comment?
Is there a link for the stats Cory Booker was referring to about the drop in domestic violence deaths?
Cory Booker's comments about registering the mentally ill for a law enforcement registry were ill-advised and require a lot of clarification. How are these determinations to be made? What about people who are not in treatment? If they are in treatment, are mental health professionals supposed to determine who should or should be registered in the absense of any specific threat by the individual of homicidal thoughts or threats?
Mr. Booker showed no sensitivity whatever to the stigma that already attaches to mental illness (including the newly named "autism spectrum disorders"). Are we now to proceed with a policy that is premised on the notion that people with autism spectrum disorders are potentially homicidal? This wouldn't be the first time Mr. Booker has said something on air that he has (or should have) walked back.
Aside from issues of fairness and lack of data to support such a notion, there are two practical problems with this suggestion. First, it would not be very effective. We do not have a National Psychology Police to assess the degree of threat of mass killing by an individual, nor should we start one based on the goal of making a better space in society for owners of handguns and semi-automatic weapons.
Second, the only one way to keep such weapons out of the hands of people with mental illness is to keep them out of the hands of ALL civilians. Period. Not for target shooting, not for nada. Civilians do not need handguns and there is no data to show that they do in this country.
It is so easy to trade away the rights of others as a chip when the dispute here is not between the government and the mentally ill. It is a dispute between the government and advocates for legal ownership of handguns and semi-automatic weapons. This will be hard and take a long time.
I hope there is a way that TRMS can clarify this. It is a serious problem discussed in a NYT Op Ed yesterday night.
Thanks.
In my opinion, freedom comes with responsibility and accountability. To solve this on going shooting madness in America today, everything has to fundamentally change, as President Obama and many other leaders and citizens have said.
1-New Federal and sate law mandating all local schools to provide rooms for all home schoolers and their tutors/parents in their communities. Public education has its place and removing home schooling privacy to public school environment will give both teachers, students and the community a better understanding of individuals in their community.
We do not have people going to private courts/movie theaters,Mall,so on so forth. Parents can do as they please with their kids as long as they are in separate rooms within the school environment and students observing same recess/meal break times with rest to insure well being socially, mentally and other wise.
2-Public health new law mandating a proactive approach to mental health evaluation ,treatment, patient monitoring and management both at local, national and international level.I suggest birth of a relevant database.
3-Last and not least, strict local/national gun laws.We pay police officers for a reason. With general awareness of PD response time,I do not need 100+bullets to protect my family and I or hunt unless I'm barbaric in which my second point would take care of me by now because folks around me are aware of such propensity.
The murder of innocent children/adults and the horror spelled out in a civilized society in our age is indicative of larger societal malady untreatable by antibiotics. These psychotic tendencies beckons surgical intervention to abruptly arrest situation alter the course and usher public security and trust.
Senseless absence of a loved one is the most forceful perpetual painful moment that one can endure.A real infringement of our collective rights as individual, community and or as a nation. May those sweet young souls be remembered forever around the world as a wake up call to Adults everywhere.
