Tonight's guests:
- Chris Hayes, author of "Twilight of the Elites" and the host of "Up with Chris Hayes" weekends on MSNBC
- Councilman Ricky Burgess, Pittsburgh City Councilman from the 9th district
- Richard Engel, NBC News chief foreign correspondent
And here's executive producer Bill Wolff with a merry little preview of what's to come:

Let's all share a adult beverage cocktail moment and offer a toast and with Richard Engel. And give him a group hug to let him know we truly care about him.
So glad Richard Engel is safe! keeping him in my prayers
Please oh please oh please, when covering the NRA thing today, please point out the weirdness of gun lovers, who traditionally rail against Big Government, demanding the Government take care of the nation's children with mandatorily-armed Government agents at every point in their school day.
It sounds like they're pining for Soviet Russia (or at least our image of it.)
On the other hand, perhaps arming teachers would help their unions' negotiating stance.
Bill looks very festive, Merry Christmas!
Manufacturers must love LaPierre, moments after a moment of silence for Sandy Hook victims, he wants to arm More People,, holy crap!!!!
Please please please talk about Chained CPI and how it will affect retirees! I feel like Obama really threw us under the bus.... What a scary future for us seniors who depend on the program we paid into for our retirement...HELP
I agree Diann. While it doesnt affect me directly, it just makes me furious that Obama would offer this up. It is the ultimate betrayal. And no one, the media or the politicians seem to want to talk about it.
Rachel, please remind people that the GOP did this obstruction before - AND WON!
We can't let them get away with this sort of thing AGAIN...
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/12/01/senate-republicans-no-legislation-until-after-tax-cut-extension/
They are holding hostage the people, threatening to harm them financially if the Pres. doesn't cave again to their demands. We can't let them do this again... it's not right!
Wayne LaPierre is a paranoid nutjob ! That is why I quit my NRA membership years ago. I am a safe, legal gun owner, and I am all for the 2nd Amendment, but I have a CONSCIENCE ! It's no surprise that the NRA supports mostly Republicans, neither group has a clue on how to compromise about ANYTHING !!!
Please please please talk about Chained CPI. There are alot of very worried retirees out there that feel we have been literally thrown under the bus!

MERRY CHRISTMAS MADDOWBLOG! Thanks for keeping the madness at bay while we tread thru the news. And Rachel? GO HOME and enjoy the holidays! We're gonna need to next Wednesday as I (believe) the ol' sh@t is gonna hit the fan!
Rachel has made a serious error, if it is an error, in her broadcast for tonight. She is "reporting" that James C. Hormel did NOT accept Churck Hagel's apology, and snarkily implied he didn't really mean it. Yet Hormel says exactly the opposite on his Facebook page, and I quote:
"Senator Hagel's apology is significant--I can't remember a time when a potential presidential nominee apologized for anything. While the timing appears self-serving, the words themselves are unequivocal--they are a clear apology. Since 199...8, fourteen years have passed, and public attitudes have shifted--perhaps Senator Hagel has progressed with the times, too. His action affords new stature to the LGBT constituency, whose members still are treated as second class citizens in innumerable ways. Senator Hagel stated in his remarks that he was willing to support open military service and LGBT military families. If that is a commitment to treat LGBT service members and their families like everybody else, I would support his nomination."

And citing the pro-war Markos Moulitsas and his nutty notion that ONLY a registered Democrat should be SecDef just shows what her motives are in this. So, the neocons go after a man who opposes their pro-war agenda, and smear him mercilessly, and Rachel COINCIDENTALLY joins the lynch mob.
Pardon me while I go vomit....
I think this calls into question the integrity of the reporting that goes on on this show: Richard Engel is on now, and I'm asking myself -- should I believe any of this? Or is there some agenda going on here?
And I'm sure you will tell us on what program of this nature mistakes have not been made. Can't wait to see your list.
Fine, but you won't see an on-air correction.
Still don't see any links. And she has made "on the air corrections" any time a mistake has been discovered. It's you Fox Lies that never addmit to Lies.
I am not "Fox Lies," nor do I WATCH "Fox Lies." You are typical of the frothy-mouthed partisan who cannot see objective reality and reacts to a correction with howls of outrage. I am willing to bet you Rachel doesn't even mention her error, let alone correct it. And if you don't see any links, it's just your partisan blindness.
Have a Merry Christmas -- and a happy New Year. Jerk.
