Remember a couple of weeks ago Andy Dallos got a picture of the 13 being delivered to Times Square for the New Year's ball dropping and I wondered where the 20 was and whether they can just leave it on top of the building for 100 years? Well, it turns out one thing they do leave on top of the building is the ball. Andy got an invite to the resetting of the ball, in which they raise it back up to the top of the pole to wait for next New Year's Eve.
After the jump, a closer look at the ball (more colorful than I realized) and how the ball sees Times Square...
Full-width vertical photos can be kind of huge in this blog design, but what the heck, let's scroll...
These view photos are from a couple of floors below the roof level, but still, this is essentially what Times Square looks like from the ball's perspective, looking north toward Central Park.

Cool colours! Due, I would presume, on the prismatics created inside the sphere while the angles of sunlight are changing as the ball is being raised, like a myriad of rainbows...
These would only be caused by an external light source, which is why you don't see them when the ball is lit...
Actually, the ball is now lit by multi-colored LEDs. The photos here were taken during a test. You're seeing the LED lighting.
"Ball's Eye View"??? tee hee!
