Can a pod of killer whales trapped in ice be rescued?

I am confused and not happy that Obama would allow such a person to be part of his ceremony. Does an anti gay preacher need a national platform?
Keep the faith. The President is a smart, sane, sensible guy. He just may know more about this guy than I do. Mr. Obama, unlike me, genuinely tries to turn enemies into friends. Among the many reasons why I would not make an effective police officer - if I saw someone doing 40 in the left hand lane, I wouldn't write them a ticket, I'd just shoot 'em. The President's approach is more effective, rational and desired in the long run - bring them to see that their impeding traffic is counter to their best interest.
God, please grant mercy for me and justice for everybody else (snark).
President Obama may try to change enemies into friends. However, that has yet to work with hateful conservatives. To give them what amounts to a bully pulpit is a betray to Obama's supposed own principles. To continue to try to befriend people who only want to destroy you and that which you stand for is not rational, it's wishful thinking.
You're right. Thw whales are the most important
The whales are now free! I know right, I just saw Big Miracle, a great movie about the stranded whales in Alaska in the 90's.
The news about Louie Giglio is disappointing. Obama's voiced personal support for marriage equality. The Democratic platform's got marriage equality listed...and yet Giglio is asked to deliver the inaugural benediction. Dang frustrating.
I understand this person now is not doing the inauguration benediction.
I'm curious to know if the Pope and his Vatican Banks will give up their major holdings in one of the largest gun manufacturing companies in the world?

Not reading this am but I heard on my radio on the way to work that some idiot is claiming that the Newtown massacre was a hoax perpetrated by the govt so they could talk about gun control..........I'm sure the parents of those that were killed would disagree heartily.
Attended Rep. Mike Thompson's forum on Gun Violence Prevention last night in Vallejo. Please could you report on California's statewide effort, within the Department of Justice, to create a database of all the guns owned in the state by people who are legally prevented from owning a gun?
There was a brief report last night by members of the Department of Justice who were on the dais with Rep. Thompson, however I do not recall their names. Not all states have such a database, but my recollection is that about 60 thousand guns are listed on their database, and they have about twenty agents working on the problem statewide. Thank you.
And now I've found a recent news report on this program -- not sure why 60K is in my head, but it may have been another statistic quoted.
I am amazed that the NRA has gotten so many more subscribers to their organization. If this is not proof to the world that they are about the money and not gun safety then what is.
On last night's show, Rachael called out the NRA for attempting to stop a gun buyback in Tucson. Lots of biased reporting there as she didn't mention the real reason for the NRA's action. Tucson police want to buy back guns - great. Arizona state law prohibits those guns from being destroyed, yet Tucson PD want to destroy them anyway. The issue is the local PD ignoring state law, not that the NRA wanted to prohibit the buy back. I understand editorial license, but let's be honest in our reporting.
so, why does the Arizona law restrict the destruction of guns? It seems that someone makes the claim that they can be sold and "benefit" Arizonans (but they mus tpay to store them if they can't find a buyer, so bye-bye benefit) and the argument is that destroying weapons does *nothing* to make people safer. Of course with no evidence that this is true or false. I have read arguments that this takes away local control, whcih doesn't suprising me at all. For all of the claims that conservatives want local people to make local decisions, as soon as that impacts on their funders, then well, "big government" is just peachy keen. Ah, hypocrisy.
Just watching the show now and wondering why it takes the murder of 20 school children (+6 adults) just before Christmas to get everyone upset/annoyed enough to start having something approaching a serious discussion about gun violence.
Columbine - not much
Dunblane - not much if anything
Tucson - not much
Aurora - not much
Virginia Tech - nada
etc
Sandy Hook - WE MUST DO SOMETHING!
Hopefully enough decent discussions and long term solutions to gun deaths comes out of these and the many other unlisted murders (mass murders or otherwise).
Because 6 year olds are so innocent, even NRA supporters found it beyond the pale!!!
Looks like a refusal/reversal:

thinking good thoughts for the whales
The whales are free according to Canadian news this morning.
Hey, the whales are free! The ice shifted last night, or that's what they are telling us in Canada this morning anyway.
Hey Rachel and all the good Americans out there, you might like to know about the huge Native protests up here in Canada!!! Since our very Conservative and big oil friendly government changed all the environment and water use laws the Native Bands all across the country have started a protest movement called "Idle No More". I am by no means an expert on this and am trying to keep this short but you may like to know that this movement is spreading to the U.S.! It has been likened to the 99% protests last year. In many of the major cities Natives have been staging flash mobs in shopping centres and have stopped rail lines and border crossings, there also was a similar protest in a mall in Montana recently. The protests have a lot to do with the proposed oil pipeline to the West Coast but are also a protest of changes to environmental laws across the board. Many Americans might not know that all the Indian Treaties are/were with the Crown, mainly Queen Victoria, but those treaties are binding and the Natives are right now appealing to the Queen. There is also a hunger strike by one of our Chiefs which is unrelated to the Idle No More but is spawning sympathy with the larger movement. It is looking like quite a mess for the Prime Minister and many people think it is going to get crazier, ie more blocking of highways, rail lines and border crossings, to hit at the economic beltline. In the larger picture this is about oil companies getting their way and since the American Natives are beginning to take notice you may want to get a handle on this, especially since Obama is expected to sign the Keystone Pipeline deal soon. It looks like this movement is just going to get bigger at the moment and potentially more destructive and able to spread across International lines, from Canada to South America there are Native peoples! It is kind of exciting for this normally apathetic country and is bringing a lot of awareness to how this government is operating and how close they are to oil companies. If anyone in American media took notice of this it would be guaranteed to only give this movement more credibility. Canadians and Canadian media always notice when we're mentioned in America, it is totally hokey but true.

Enact legislation that will provide mental health assessments for people currently
owning guns. While background checks need to be mandatory for all purchasers we need a mechanism to
address the problem of current gun owners or people residing with them who may have slipped into mental illness. There should be a way for family, law enforcement, neighbors, and other concerned citizens to request an evaluation. If the person is found to be mentally ill by a competent mental health professional, a legal hearing should commence to adjudicate the removal of the guns and that name be placed on the registry to prevent further purchases.
