I realize that few would expect the reasonable from Rick Santorum, but opposing Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense because of his supposed "pro-Iran mindset" seems a little much, even for Rick Santorum. As the runner-up for the Republican nomination, Santorum is something of a leader in his party, or he'd like to be. As Steve has been saying, the Hagel nomination is again splitting the GOP.

Playing to his audience...
Said it before and it bares repeating...this is Smart Vs. Stupid
Whenever someone turns on FOX News the IQ of the adjacent county drops 10 points
Ah... Rick Rectum. It returns. How charming. He is great, isn't he? Oh, sorry, I just tossed my cookies.
One word... LUNATIC!
The neocons are coming back in a big way. Santorium is simply showing off his John Bolton mindset.
All this hoopla about Chuck Hagel's "anti-Israel, pro-Iran stance" by the GOP makes you kind of wonder who's pulling the strings in that group. Shouldn't they be more concerned with promoting the American people's welfare than the Israelis'? Or did I miss something?
No so much "pro Israel" as "Pro Armageddon". It's complicated, so you may have to visit an Evangelical mega-church for the details.
A lot of Evangelicals purpose for being "Pro-Israel" has very little to do with their compassion for the people of that country. As it does, bringing about the Rapture or Armageddon according to their faith in Revelations.
I have friends who are Evangelicals, and they are not bad people. But every time I've visited one of their Churches. Either the Sermon or the after service conversations, end up gravitating to "The end times cannot begin, until Israel is returned to the Jews" topic.
To me it just gives the impression that, they care more about themselves and their faith, than they do about the actual people of Israel.
Thanks for your comments, Day and Calvin. I don't attend their church, so I wasn't aware of those beliefs held by the Evangelical group. Very interesting.
They aren't really bible based beliefs as much as they are reflect an irrational belief in the Left Behind series of novels by LaHaye and Jenkins that were popular a few years ago. And Evangelicals look down on the believers in the Book of Morman. At least Joseph Smith tried to write in the style of the King James bible.
Oh, the Left Behind series. Was that the one that used very short sentences and one-syllable words? For all the gullible simpletons out there?
Santorum, TrueChristian, is a liar... again. Whodathunk? Dear Rachel, time to mention all of his lies from last year and ask for an apology again.
His spiritual chastity belt has cut off the majority of the blood to his brain. He is a has-been who still craves being a center of attention. Ignore him and he will go away.
Santorum is a card carrying member of the Loony Wacko Radical Far Right Party. No news here.
Oh Rick....If only it had been you instead of Mitt ..you would have showed them.
Rick "The Anchor" Santorum... Just pull into a port and drop Santorum...
Remember, to the right wing mind, (tiny and unused as it is), if you are not for nuking Iran to convince them not to build nukes, then you obviously must be pro-Iran. I'm still trying to figure out how nuking someone will prevent them from wanting nukes. It would seem more likely that it will only make them more determined to get them in any way possible, (black market, or with help from nations like Pakistan or North Korea), and then take nuclear revenge on their attackers. Of course, that says nothing of the more immediate results from attacking and destroying functioning reactors and enrichment facilities....loss of oil from that region due to radioactive contamination of production and shipping facilities, radioactive fallout that is calculated to spread into India, China, Southeast Asia and southern Russia, destroying crops and killing tens of millions. My prediction---if Israel and/or the US attack Iran and cause the kind of damage I outlined above, which is what atomic scientists have said will happen, a major part of the world's population is going to be mighty pissed off. And by pissed off, I mean in a military manner. I think we'd feel the same way if some other nation like North Korea caused similar havoc that killed millions of our people. So, pro-Iran Hagel? Sounds more like he has functioning brain cells and understands how catastrophic it would be to start or support a war on Iran.
Maybe we should take President R (sp?) of Iran at his word. If Isael and U.S. etc. would stop rattling their nukes and threatening to attack Iran, then the Iranians would not feel they need nukes of their own.
Honestly, I don't think it would have the desired effect. Even if the US and Israel stopped rattling their swords, Israel still has one of the largest nuke arsenals in the world. That is plenty of incentive for their neighbors to think about acquiring some of their own. It is just like India and Pakistan. They had fought each other in the past, had continuing animosity toward each other, and India joined the nuke club to get a leg up on their troublesome neighbor. That gave Pakistan the incentive to obtain their own nukes, so that India would think twice about attacking. As long as one country in the Middle East has the monopoly on nukes, there will always be an incentive for others to try and break that monopoly. What would happen if Saudi Arabia decided to start a nuke program? Would the US call for sanctions on them? Would we threaten to attack them if they still kept trying to get a nuke? No, I'm sure we'd give them a pass because we need their oil.
Hopefully President Obama and Hillary can get through to Crazy Karzi to convince ABJer to cut the circus and join the world:: Iran should settle Syria!! Turbin heads have to join the world!!
The election proved there is no political penalty among the far right wing for blatant lying.
So this should come as a shock to absolutely nobody at this point.
When was Santorum ever reasonable? I must have missed that day.
NOTHING is too outrageous a lie for Santorum.
This from a guy who professes to be one of THE most religious politicians out there.
Another Opus Dei lunatic.
I told you, Chuck Hagel is a dirty hippie!
Who cares? People don't even know what the job entails. Secretary of Defense is a diplomatic job. I seriously doubt that Chuck Hagel is going to jump in a tank and barrel down the streets of Tel Aviv if anything goes wrong. I swear to God, if most people had to work for the United States Government, they'd probably stick their head in an oven, rather than show up for work on a daily basis. People seem entirely normal when they get elected, but when the amyl nitrate and pineal gland mimosas make their rounds on Capitol Hill, something goes very, very wrong. Let me see Chuck Hagel pull into a Sonic Drive-In and get everybody's lunch orders from the "Mineral Resource Committee" delivered accurately and pipin' hot. Then we'll talk.
Chuck Hagel: "Whillikers! Santorum sure is mad! I thought he specifically ordered the "Cheesy Tater Tots" with the melted cheese ON the tater tots. I didn't know he wanted a cheese cup on the side. I had my heart set on monogrammed cuffs, and we are in "Defcom 5" on the tater-tots. Is Santorum on the phone? Ask that S.O.B. if he wants curly fries..."
Based on their "next in line" approach to nominating candidates for president, Santorum should be the GOP standard bearer in 2016.
C'mon, Rick. Grab that party leadership role. We're (meaning Democrats) counting on you. Santorum for president! Woo hoo!
I'm so sorry he's from my state. Sorry America, my deepest apologies.
santorum is an idiot.
chuck hagel is not my first choice for SoD but at least he should take orders and not try to start any wars as a hobby.
"The Religious Right is Neither". What a good quote to show the hypocrisies of the GOP NeoCons.
At this point, I'd say Christie is the one that is the next in line. Of course, unless the repub party completely changes its drive further and further to the right, he will get creamed early in the primary process, especially in wackadoodle southern states. I think a Christie run could very well complete the split in the repub party that is growing today.
"Next in line" doesn't mean the favorite. It's the person who ran second last time. That would be Santorum. Over the years, the Republicans have traditionally gone with a candidate who has competed through the primary process and lost, but competed well. We may not think much of Santorum, but he won a number of primaries and might well have been the nominee this time had Romney not carpet bombed him with negative ads.
You can't be "next in line" when you've never been in line to begin with. Christie didn't run for president in 2012.
If Santorum is the guy in 2016, dems will have a hard time not winning in a landslide.
He's a perfect candidate who needs to be put on a list to be prevented from being able to buy guns, yes? Better yet, draft him, give him a weapon and see what it's like in a hot war zone. But, unfortunately because we have no draft for our military, there's way too many in Congress who never served this country by putting thier lives on the line and make these uninformed comments reflecting their narrow minded view of the world and this country. Unfortunately, for some old warriors, they've forgotten the downside of war.
Why are we giving this guy any space or acknowledgement. These kind of people need to be totally ignored and thus irrevalent. We are just encouraging him. He probably thinks we like him that why we talk about him. His recognition should come from Beck, Limbaugh, GOPTV (FOX), Alex Jones and the ilk..
Why are we not talking about why Bachman keeps trying to repeal ACA. There must be something in it that adversely effects her husband's business that receives Gov't subsidies (Medicare/Medicare?). Besides, in two years she should be replaced. She won by <4000 votes. Her state deserves better. Where is Mat Taibbi? He has a knack of finding out the real facts ergo his recent article on Wall Street "Secret and Lies of the Bailout" in the current edition of Rolling Stone.
