Guns?
Kool-Aid or Kill-Aid? Somebody's drinking it

So it can be done, even though most of New York is like middle america. The NRA isn't a paper tiger, but it isn't an unstoppable force either. These measures don't don't solve all our gun violence problems, but they're a good start. Perhaps, when it becomes obvious that they don't take away any guns, further sensible measures will become palatable to non-fanatical gun owners.
No amount of measure will completely solve the problem, but it will certainly lessen the gun violence to a considerable rate. If you compare Drinking & Driving laws then (none in the 70s) and then a decade later, after the first D&D laws were enacted, the number of D&D related deaths plummeted by 70%. If we get that kind of reduction for gun related violence ten years after the first enactment of gun regulations, it would be a very good thing.
“Law-abiding citizens who own guns are not our problem. Law-abiding citizens understand and know how to take care of their guns, not to be a danger to others.” Really? The Sandy Hook shooter's (I refuse to type his name) mother was a "law-abiding citizen". Clearly, tragically, she was a horrendous danger to herself and others.
New York state has enacted the most draconian gun restrictions out of any state in the nation, and probably the most restrictive gun legislation in US history.
Currently, New York state ranks 25th in the number of firearm homicides, with a rate of homicide of 4.61 out of 100,000 people, and a firearm homicide rate of 2.61 out of 100,000 people.

This makes New York state about as average as you can get in the United States when it comes to gun violence. Now that this new legislation has been enacted, let's see, in a year, what the result is.
I have a prediction. Gun violence in New York will probably remain unchanged. It won't get better, and it won't get worse.
If it only does not get worse then it still is a success. It takes a first step forward to resolve a long time issue and problem nothing changes that quickly that is a permanent and successful solution. As long as it takes to make the problem it will take that long to successfully fix it. We do not want band-aids or quick non permanent solutions now do we?
Hi, can you guys report on this disgusting development? The Sandy Hook truthers are now harassing the man who helped those 6 children who escaped during the massacre, claiming he must be a paid actor or something.
Sunlight is the best disinfectant. I used to think ignoring these nutjobs was for the best, but then I found out all that does is allow them to fester sight unseen, and actually grow their numbers because the rest of us didn't take them seriously. Now, feeling emboldened, these sociopaths have stepped up to the next level: harassing the actual victims themselves.
This needs to stop. You need to help expose these people for the nutjobs they are. Don't let them continue to hide in the shadows of anonymity.
That is absolutely appalling. The truther movement definitely needs some light shown on it so that rationality can come back. I think BruinKid is right, we all need to take a stand and call out these crazies whenever and wherever we see them.
And remember, these "truthers" are the NRA's base!

it's a big 'ol news day. let's get stuff done.
Hire returning veterans as security guards in our public schools.
This would provide a good job for our heroes whose unemployment rate is higher then the general public. In turn this would help the economy and reduce the need for paying unemployment and other social benefits to these veterans. Tremendous savings would be achieved by little or no firearms or self defense training being needed. Further costs be offset by reducing or eliminating current tax breaks for business's hiring veterans. This could be a program with wide bi-partisan and public support. Lastly and most importantly, it would greatly improve safety for our most vulnerable citizens, our children, OUR FUTURE.
