Orwellian News-speak straight ahead! Stay tuned folks!
The Syrian use of chemical weapons is hardly a secret. The news from December was that Agent 15 was used in grenade form in one town. It causes paralysis temporarily.
If a person didn't know not to, a standard injection of atrophine would be LETHAL.
"Here's What The 'Agent-15' Chemical Doctors Say Was Used In
Syria Does To People" (12-24-12)
"Doctors at SAMS describe a "probable" use of what chemical specialists refer to as "Agent-15," or 3-Quinuclidinyl Benzilate, or what NATO calls "BZ." They classified their report as "probable" because the higher classification of "confirmed" would require laboratory testing.
From SAMS:
The Gas effects started [a] few seconds after the area was shelled. Right after the shelling, patients described seeing white gas with odor, then they had severe shortness of breath, loss of vision, inability to speak, flushed face, dizziness, paralysis, nausea and vomiting, and increased respiratory secretions. Doctors who treated patients said that patients had pinpoint pupils and bronchospasm. Patients were treated in a field hospital. Gas masks were not available.
The particularly nasty aspect of this chemical weapon is that use of atropine needles, a common countermeasure against nerve agents, is actually a toxic combination and can lead to exacerbation of symptoms, even death."

Dear Rachel Maddow,
I am not sure if this is the correct forum but here it is anyway:
I am a great fan but today you said in your show that France "invaded" Mali. Totally not factual and it is a disapointment. France, reluctantly, has sent troops to stop islamists fundamentalists who had occupied and terrorized for a while now the whole north of MALI which has borders with Algeria and Mauritania among others. France has intervened at the (desperate) call for help from the Malian gouvernment, within the frame of a prior UN resolution and with the support of neighboring African countries including Nigeria (which has 900 troops already on its way), all of that in anticipation of a slow build up of an African intervention force that has been commited months ago to help a weak Malian military recover their northern terrirtories. Yes the US, Germany and Great Britain are providing support. France has 6000 citizens living and working in that country, it has economic interest in the region and 9 hostages in the hands of the same well trained and well armed fundamentalists group ...it was a no brainer...and definitely not an invasion. I am counting on you and your show to step up on reporting about the important geopolitical ramifications of this crisis. FYI, 75% of French polled today do support the military intervention, that in itself is also very atypical... I am a French-American news junkie who admires your intelligence and your investigative mind :) so I am counting on you. Merci!
Dear Mr. Wolff and Company,
Stop being so nice and hopeful ! This is politics darn it ! Humans just want to hurt each other, OK ? Dont you know that ?? So now here is some more bad news. I have the Dow Jones numbers for the last sixty years and every time an American president has gotten a second term, the economy has set record profits as long as there were no wars. I like wars !! I need wars. People need to kill each other. It makes them feel better. Dont you know anything??
Who will be Lisa Jackson's replacement? Climate change is highly politicized, so perhaps Obama will go for a seasoned politician.
Others:
I am disappointed with your coverage of NY's new gun law. This was passed without public hearing, the usual 3 day aging period. It was crammed through so quickly that it is so full of errors that a corrections bill is already being drafted.
I am ok with much of the bill, but I do believe in the individual right to bear arms. The 7 round magazine rule effectively takes peoples guns away. There are very few handguns that hold only 7 rounds. I doubt manufacturers will produce a NY only model gun. It even interferes with traditional target sports, Bullseye, for example, has a 10 shot timed round. A point has been raised that states may not ban commonly used weapons as part of the Heller decision. I expect that at some point, this will be legally challenged. I also think background checks for every sale of ammunition will end up making it both expensive and burdensome to sell, there will be shortages and headaches. This is also direct interference with the right to bear arms.
No, I am not some right wing wacko. I contributed to Obama's campaign. I was assured "they" weren't going to take our guns away. They have.
I forgot to ad, the reason I am against background checks for ammo, If the buyer has a valid permit, why do we need to constantly check again? Or if we are, then why "recertify" when it will be necessary to do so to buy ammo.
PS. Please stop calling them clips! They are magazines! Clips are a specific item used in a few military rifles. You sound ignorant when you call it a clip. Honest.
Well said. But shame on the liberal cablesphere. The rules of transparency and democratic process do not apply to Maddow, Schultz et al etc. To those of you unfamiliar with how Albany works it's something like this. The Majority Leader or speaker get together with the Governor and sometimes the Minority Leader and they decide what is to go into a bill. Sometimes they call in consultants to iron out technical matters. They then tell the rank and file members of the conference how they are to vote. It takes an Assemblyman with a lot of stuff between his legs to buck the dictatorship of Shelly Silver. As for the naive little munchkins of the cablesphere like Schultz and Maddow they matter little in this mix. Give them and interview and they will be happy. With journalists of more character and grit the regal process of Albany may have held less alure but that was not to be. The good part is that we all know al lot more about the cablesphere and Andy Cuomo who has just terminated any hope he ever had of using the while house china.
I might add that I do not own an "assault weapon" and am an NRA member who is not thrilled with Wayne La Pierre. But like any broken clock wayne is right twice a day.
now that new york passed these laws and they say that people with phsychiatric problems will be disarmed Will they be disarming three quaters of the new york police force. Anti social disorders disconnected from society. Take a look at what happen at the protest that was suppose to be peacefull. New york police beating women children. They need to do a evaluation in the police force a lot of phsyco paths there. KIlling there own wives even folowing women repeatedly raping them a long list of mental illness in nypd.
