The jewelry Newark Mayor Cory Booker mentioned on the show tonight (and on his previous appearance) that is made of gun parts and the proceeds of which go to furthering Newark's gun buyback program is called The Caliber Collection, offered by Jewelry with a Cause. If those sites are a little slow to load tonight, you can learn more in this profile and this recent feature in Vanity Fair.
More of tonight's citations after the jump...

Ah! The Caliber Collection. . .a little slow to load. I see what you did there!
Does anyone but me remember how during the war in Vietnam, the North Vietnamese used to make bracelets (and rings, and teapots, and mirrors and plows) out of downed American planes? Now Corey Booker does the same with guns. Back then & today I call this turning swords into plowshares. Congratulations Mayor Booker.
Yes, a friend of mine still has a piece of jewelry made from a piece of a bomber shot down over North Vietnam.
This graphic from a facebook site is very relevant to your 1/16 show. The format here would not allow me to paste it here directly, which would be an easier way for you to see that it is worthwhile. Please have a look at it. I do not know who made it up, but I would like to thank them very much. Thank you!

We don't have an epidemic of gun violence. We have an epidemic of media sensationalism about guns. Remember about 10 years ago when we were all afraid of terrorists? Follow the bouncing ball, people.

You are so right. It is not the guns fault. Guns just make murder easier. And a little bit of murder should be considered normal really. The truth is there are many good uses for guns in ordinary life. I use my guns to loosen stuck bolts. Works great. Just do not hit the gas tank. Clearing clogged drain pipes, bam and done. Changing the channel on the tv, well once anyway. The uses are endless really.
No, I think you've got the wrong tool there, Pondering. You know, one thing guns are good at? Preventing crimes. According to the Justice Department guns are used 82,500 times a year by citizens to protect themselves or their property. These are the numbers from 1994, which predated most conceal carry laws, so those number have likely increased dramatically.

I still believe guns have done more harm than good overall. But perhaps you should ask my mother. You see she was the one that had to wash my older brothers brains and blood for her bedroom ceiling after he sent a bullet threw his head using my dads favorite gun. But what do I know ?
Alva, what good are numbers from 1994? That is 18 years ago. Are there no data more recent? Also, did you note that the data do NOT break out police officers? There is no way to know how many of those guns were used by civilians as opposed to police officers. You have interpreted the very minimal data in those tables to support your own pre-conceived ideas. Also, your last sentence is completely unsupported speculation.
Pondering, I am very sorry for your loss.
Joan, I wish I had more recent data. From the link, it's pretty clear to me, that they're NOT talking about police officer in the line of duty. Furthermore, handgun use for defensive purposes drastically reduces the chances of a victim of crime being injured.
From that link:
Furthermore, from the years 1987-1992:
So we're not talking about a bunch of yahoos pretending to be Rambo. We're talking about legitimate uses of a firearm to protect and defend your life.
Joan, there are two instances where one would likely need to defend themselves. In their own home, or when they're out in public. Your chances of being a victim of crime is greatest when you're out in public. Since '94, more and more states have passed concealed carry laws. I think it's probably safe to say that those numbers have increased since then.
By holding off showing the RMS to those of us watching on the internet, you are excluding those of us who would like to go to bed in the Midwest. OK... I'm an old fashioned minister who has a congregation who needs me to get up early the next day and does't have the time to watch TV rather than the internet. I'm hoping you'll reconsider.
Blessings,
Garth
american indians, 135 years ago i understand, were unarmed, their horses and land confiscated, were jailed for a month, starved, and deprived of wood for heat by the u.s. army under pres. grant (who succeeded lincoln's murder by the gun of a southerner, apparently lincoln and his family did not have a secret service like we provide today), but had hidden gun parts and "gun-part" jewelry which they assembled, broke out on on a christmas night in nebraska, and continued to run toward a homeland in montana at great cost to the majority of their lives from bullets, swords and bayonets of the pursuing calvary and infantry.
i guess the second amendment served its purpose and protected the citizens from those blacks and indians upon whose backs and resources this country has thrived ever since. i think this is an accurate telling of recent history. knowing this, society has an obligation to get this challenge right. intelligence and good will must trump bloody, ignorant force.
Loved the show tonight. I cried through most of it out of sheer thankfulness that people like our President and Vice President, Mayors Booker and Bloomberg and more and more governors are willing to take a stand and do what needs to be done. As Cory Booker said, this HAS been an amazing, historic day. Good night and pleasant dreams, y'all.
JL, I live in Nebraska - another gun-loving state. We have work to do emailing our reps, talking to neighbors, etc. We can do this.
Hi. I was trying to watch the January 16 2013 show on the web here, but the first 2 segments of the show try to load, then fail...and the third segment finally plays through. Could someone check that please and fix it? Thanks TRMS! Ya'll rock. :D
If Manti girlfriend not real why did he rent the chipper-shredder?
I just took a gander at the Caliber Collection shopping page. It's a nice idea (swords into jewelry, and all that), but the price tags seem very high for a small band of steel or brass. I won't be buying any at those prices.
