President Obama has already arrived at Capitol Hill, and Inauguration Day is well underway. You can watch live coverage and the president's second inaugural address right here.
Let's consider this an open thread for the big day. I'll update this post a little later with the full video of Obama's speech. [Update: Here's the video of the president's second inaugural, along with some analysis.]

Wonder where the Republicans are going to have their "Just say NO" strategy meeting this time
betting they fine a nice slippy rock on a slope.
they will plot to make sure he can only be a two term president, and fight hard to make the policy's that are working fail.
republicans should be pleased by the D.C. law enforcement.. during the drive to the capitol building.. all the cops had their backs turned to the president..
( yeah I know they were watching the crowd.)
They shouldn't have even been invited!
Maybe, they will go the Rush or Hannity's house this time.
I think, most appropriately, many are gathering in Las Vegas at the Wynn and Adelson casinos. "Sin City"," the modern day Sodom and Gomorrah"...Delicious irony from the Jeebus party huh?
Are you ready for four more years on Treasonous Republican obstruction?
Armed liberal,
I think the president is ready this time. I believe he's given up on the compromise idea. You get tired of trying to compromise with the terminators.
The second inauguration of Barack Obama.
Also known as no Mitt Romney day.
A good moment .... A perfect moment!
We all have a stake in the success of our president. May he achieve great things.
Take a look at the faces in the crowd. THIS is the real America!
Rachel said before that Gerald Ford was the first to leave D.C. by helicopter after leaving office. Nixon was the first, albeit under different circumstances. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3U4MhKDxcw
Watching FOX coverage. "Smaller crowds, less enthusiasm." Every factual observation followed by a divisive comment. Ginning up the hatred for the next four years.
yeah never a mention of him having won the popular vote or that the Dems did better over all...
I went and searched FOX for any mention of REDMAP and there wasn't anything even on redistricting...can't imagine why
And during the first part still had the political chryon scrolling on the bottom complaining about Afghanistan
Stay Classy Faux
I was moved to tears watching the ceremony
"Smaller crowds" - due to more Americans being employed than in January 2009!!!!
Thankful to have lived to see this happen twice!
I swore I wasn't going to cry this time.
I did, though.
It hits me that this inauguration is completes the work that should have been done when the Constitution was written. We finally got there, decades later, but we got there. What a great country we could be if not for corporatism and obstructionism. We have been great when depressions or wars force us to come together. We are a better country for electing Barack Obama, but we can be better still. I will be involved with Organizing for Action.
Days like today - the peaceful transfer of power - are so powerful. To think that hundreds of thousands of people can gather in public to witness this in peace is truly amazing. With all of our troubles, challenges, and disagreements, this is among the most positive of defining characteristics in what it means to be an American. Best wishes to the President and Vice President, and to all of us for the next 4 years.
Fox News is hating every minute of this!
Yeah, they've all got their Depends on.
they are watching for a legal glitch to claim he lacks real authority.. ( never mind the real oath was yesterday )
They'll make the claim anyway. Facts don't matter to the foxes.
President Obama gave a truly excellent and meaningful address. He covered every topic Democrats care about.
And the poet was wonderful. Amazing!
James Taylor OMG!
Sing it, James!
James Taylor should have quit after Fire and Rain. I say we need Leonard Cohen up there!
Hallelujah!
What a wonderful day for our country. Is it only those of us with a Democratic/democratic persuasion that feel that way? I don't think so.
And isn't it a shame that Faux News has nothing good to say? I imagine they have been writing today's script for weeks now. Poor babies . . .
All honor to our renewed President!!
OMG! They are shelling the crowd! ;-)
Wow, howitzers on the Mall.
Happy Inauguration and MLK Days!
It's a fine day for America. I wish I could stay here and watch it all, but have commitments.
The Presidents first official act should be to have the congress arrested for impersonating elected officials.
joca,
That would be called a step in the right direction!
4 years ago I was not able to watch this because it was a school day, and our administrator would not let us watch it in class lest we offend some parents!!!!!
Can anyone point me to a source similar to cook's pvi index that will show me votes for obama in 2012 by legislative district?

Excellent data. Very interesting. Thanks.
fox news' "worst day of the year" apparently because of "drab weather, holiday bills, and resolutions we have not met." riiiiiiiiight.
Yeah, The President brings up climate change, and our responsibility to act.
I'm happy to live in a country where an intelligent, educated, humble, honest (as much as a polititian can be), hardworking, family-oriented, black man got re elected by the majority for President; and is being inaugurated today, Martin Luther King Jr. Day......we should be very proud of how far we've come as a nation, but there's still work to be done. We need to work towards a society where race, religion, sexual orientation, gender and socioeconomic status are not obstacles in people's right to the pursuit of happiness
I like my president. Thanks America for getting him elected. Now if we could only get rid of the tea party, and Fox News. 2014 I pray it happens.
Dee, Your computer to God's ears. I pray it happens, too.
I see the T-Party as those "domestic enemies" the president promised to fight against when he took his oath of office.
Four more years of running our country into the ground!!! Fantastic....can't wait. It's just mindboggling as to how you people support him as a President. He might be the nicest and greatest man alive, however, as a President, he's a total fail. #hellinahandbasket
Awwww......another sore loser!!!
LOL!!!
#rightwingtrollsarecompleteidots
you should explain your reasoning, otherwise you'll look like an ignorant liar.
Hey Biased, do you remember all your "fair and balanced" media and your "unskewed polls" telling you this wouldn't happen.
Go stick your head back up your ass where you keep it. Your sheep are bleating for you to come back to Wacko World and get busy "servicing" them.
Good job, TC.
In wingnut whackadoodle world, "Into the ground" apparently means higher corporate profits, higher employment, higher stock values, freedom of religion, better education, a strong military, an improving health care system, more equal opportunity for all, and yes, you can still own a gun.
Don't like it, Biased? Don't let the border hit you in the arse on the way out.
You sound like biased media! Maybe you should check some facts as to where we were when he took over and where we are now. Biased Media must work for Fox. I do know that Fox News is biased media.
Pretty disappointed in how this page functions on posts. I posted a comment congratulating James Taylor while he was singing and barely made it back past the commercial in time to see the President sworn in.
Epic, *EPIC* fail on your part, MSNBC and the people in charge of this blog. Pathetic decision making from a technical standpoint, and a reprehensible capitulation to advertisers and their dollars.
