And why is Sierra Club President Michael Brune name checking John Muir and Henry David Thoreau? The San Francisco Chronicle's Joe Garofoli writes:

Henry David Thoreau
The Sierra Club is — for the first time in its history — going to engage in civil disobedience on Feb. 17 in Washington, D.C., which is also a day that greenies predict will be "the largest climate rally in history."... With Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman approving the pipeline’s route through his state Tuesday, Sierra Club President Michael Brune hopped onto Facebook to announce that the San Francisco-headquartered Club is “for the first time in our 120-year history….be engaging in peaceful civil disobedience to help stop the dirty and destructive Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. We’re all in!”
By pushing back against the Keystone Pipeline Brune said the Sierra Club is, "following in the hallowed footsteps of Thoreau, who first articulated the principles of civil disobedience 44 years before John Muir founded the Sierra Club." To wit:

John Muir
What is the price-current of an honest man and patriot today? They hesitate, and they regret, and sometimes they petition; but they do nothing in earnest and with effect. They will wait, well disposed, for others to remedy the evil, that they may no longer have it to regret. At most, they give up only a cheap vote, and a feeble countenance and Godspeed, to the right, as it goes by them. There are nine hundred and ninety-nine patrons of virtue to one virtuous man.
And one from Mr. Muir.
God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanches, and a thousand tempests and floods. But he cannot save them from fools.

The sandhills of Nebraska, and the huge reservoir beneath it is a resource that shouldn't be messed with, period. I'm all for civil disturbance. Way to go, guys.
Not one drop of the product of that pipeline will ever be used here, other than to enrich already-engorged with wealth oil companies as they sell it on across t he world. Canadians may claim to be the "civilized" part of North America, but - like the seal murderers they protect and the loggiing-uber-alles they have done for over a century - it's clear they don't see beyond the end of their billfold when it comes to the planet they live on.
Yes, this shouldn't have happened. We're on the fast track to a wasteland.
This pipeline and any development of the tar sands is the biggest threat to the planet earth that we face. Even if there is never an oil spill, just dumping all that carbon into our atmosphere will destory this planet.
Not to mention that these tar sands are going to be shipped across the big waters to other countries ; and just Why would any reasonable person threaten our environment for the benefit of a foreign country ; It makes No sense to Me ; but these Goofballs that could care-less about anyone Or anything other than their own personal coffers is beyond Me ! Greed appears to be the Only driving force here , IMO !
the "anything for money" crowd will do anything for money because the earth is not good enough for them and - they think they can fix anything - and, if they cant fix it, they can find another way and adapt.
but if you ask the planet - earth will tell you that the real terrorists are the pimped out anything for money repubers.
These money-mongers are not-at-all concerned about Fixing Anything , they are more selfishly motivated for their own concerns of Using and abusing everything and everyone for their own personal profit and Nothing More than that ! They don't care about the earth or other people ! They Only care about their own coffers ! They are Not Constructive At-All !
you ain't seen nothin' yet. The climate predictions were all wrong as i said y-e-a-r-s back because the air over the poles changes by a power of 3 and this is the event that has the largest weighted effect of climate turbulence. GOT CALCULUS? power of 3 because the weather is really a pattern of the DIAMETER of a sphere and changes in diameter of a sphere are a power of 3.
worst is yet to come. you ain't seen nothin' yet.
From what I can see humanity is the species that eats it's own - just to "make a profit"! Have WE become so selfish that WE forget that WE are supposed to be "stewards" of the Earth for our grandchildren! WE must invest in research into alternative energy sources - WE must stop polluting into the skies, waters, earth! WE must protect the Earth from US as a species, because WE have forgotten what really holds value to US all!
Not All of US , honey , Not All of US ! ..........................................................
How much profit do we make from supporting tar sands when it costs us 60 billion in disaster aid every year or so.
Oil profiteers are externalizing costs onto the entire world we live in and the world our children will need to survive in.
Screw the deficit-save our world!
No fear! The sooner we pollute and otherwise use up all of our water reserve in this country. the sooner Bushie can cash in on his land acquisition in South America that sits atop the planets largest fresh water aquifer. Coincidence? (I wish I could find a better source.)
We might want to invest in the stock market for bottled water - right now !
Well I just might renew my membership. Of course the right will continue to frack up things even as their kids struggle with asthma and other respiratory ailments. After all giving big business the green light is drilled into republicans at an early age.
Thing to question now is -is it too late to give a hoot? Those dang hippies tried to warn us in the sixties but we were told they were a bunch of acid dropping anti-social misfits. They did get strip mining and clear cutting outlawed--uh then again...
