Great take down of Harry Reid! I'm livid, absolutely livid!

So… Harry Reid and all the bloviating remainder of the Democratic majority LIED TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC… Just lied. Jarod Brown came on Rachel’s program and LIED to the audience. They all professed these guarantees that they were going to reform the super-majority problem in the Senate.

Reid and the rest of the fake democrats LIED. They just lied.

Rachel - I'm furious with you! You just interviewed Sherrod Brown and complimented him on his "straight answers" about the filiburster. Bull crap! He didn't give you any info about why Harry Reid caved on the filibuster - - and you didn't ask him why. I'm shocked at you and at Sherrod Brown.

Just watched Sherrod Brown dance around the filabuster vote just like Harry Reid did. Is there any democrat that will stand up to Mcconnell? Bring Nancy Pelosi over to the senate next time, shes got more scrotums than any of the senate leadership if thats what you call it.

It made me sick and angry to listen to Sherrod Brown, and I've lost most of the respect I had for him. Trying to dismiss this huge failure by saying it really doesn't matter. If they were able to pass anything, the House wouldn't act. We don't really need the Senate to pass anything because Obama is going to do everything by executive order. No, that's not the answer! All of us out here are being deprived of our basic rights to a Constitutionally balanced government operating by majority rule and actually getting things done -- and guys like Reid and Brown don't even seem to care. And I was foolish enough to hope they'd actually fix it when they had the chance. Why did they cave in? They're not even telling us why they did it.

I love Rachel and Sherrod and I am so, so angry. I have never seen Sherrod so evasive, even his facial expression was weaker than usual, and Rachel so willing to not ask the tough question - which, to me, is what the hell happened? What trade off was there? Why did Reid cave? I think we get to know why there will be no governing by the Senate for another two years. How do the people get listened to? We are told to contact our Congress people. They are not representing us, only their reelection possibilities. The People just got screwed again.

I've been a fan of the Rachel Maddow show for years but never submitted a comment. I'm sorry to say that I am disturbed not only by Harry Reid's action, and by Sherrod Brown's comments, which seemed weirdly evasive, but by Rachel's response to this event, which seemed not to rise above annoyance and chagrin.

Please THINK about this. Few things have paralyzed our government and hamstrung the Obama administration as has the Republicans' abuse of the filibuster, which clearly is profoundly antidemocratic. Now, after saying that a majority vote could change this rule, the opportunity to even VOTE on whether to substantially change it is passed up. Weird comments about there not being enough support by that idiot Sherrod simply beg the question that is at the heart of this -- (a) why isn't there (I thought Democrats were supposed to want to get their legislation passed)? and (b) above all why not VOTE on it? Supposedly this is one thing that cannot be filibustered, so by God it ought at least to be possible to have a public vote. If not then the state of our democracy is dire indeed.

But no real explanation was given or even seriously pursued. I was saying WHY WHY WHY WHY throughout your program and encountering the same incuriosity and apparent acceptance of Sherrod's evasions (he tried to change the subject and talk about the House!) that seems to pervade this whole issue. It was simply reported that that rascal Harry Reid has done it again after saying he wouldn't, as though this is some sort of unlucky accident even though it quite possibly it will destroy the prospects for implementing the program of a newly re-elected President, and do so for no reason that is very clear or apparently is deemed worthy of close scrutiny. Isn't it your job to ask why and to pursue an answer in at least some depth? This isn't like Republican gerrymandering because it is done with the consent of Democrats. Maybe I'm not politically savvy, but I have the impression Obama has no role in this, just passively waiting in the White House to find out that Harry Reid just doomed his second term to continued paralysis. How can this be? Why doesn't he have Harry Reid's balls in a vice? Why did he run for office anyway? Maybe there are answers to these questions but how about helping some of us out who thought winning actual votes mattered?

the schools. This nation is reaping what it has sowed, bottom line. Where is
your bleeding hearts, for the atrocities that were committed against my race,
"The true First Peoples of this Country", no you say "get over
it", "the past is the past", “we cannot change what has happened”,
“we did not commit these offenses”. Guess what the law abiding citizens of this
country did not commit the atrocities that have started us down this spiral of
freedom striping being committed against the American People. You do not like
it when the shoe is on the other foot, but tough as it is, this nation will

poor children names over and over on T.V., these guys do not give one good damn
about those children, any more than the other side does, let those deceased
rest in peace. The statement that we do not need an AR-15 to go deer hunting,
is also starting to bother me, these are more empty headed sayings of some one

deer hunting does not mean you are in no danger of being killed, and if you
think for one moment that image of Bambi most of you have in your asinine heads,
is what deer are like, take your tale to the woods, and go stalk a buck that
is in full rut mode, jump him, and then take him on with that one bullet, see if it is enough to do the deed. This is exactly why during bow or muzzle loader season multiple types of firearms are aloud as backup. Because those that know are not idiots, trust me you do not want to be on the receiving end of those hooves or antlers, should the buck be a true beast.

I am a huge fan of yours, but I must agree with the earlier comments about Senate reform.

Harry Reid had a chance to make changes and didn't.

Senator Brown came on and was very evasive about your questioning him on the failure to put any reforms in place that did ANYTHING to reform. He is usually a butt kicker when he appears on your show. They are the legislators. Why was he putting everything onto President Obama to use executive priviledge?

I think that I was most disappointed in you. I hate to have to write this, but I feel I must.

I went back and watched the Reid/Brown segment again, hoping that maybe I was mistaken about how it went.

I wasn't mistaken. You sat there like one of the Fox News blondes and let Sharrod Brown talk nonsense for 4 minutes, not answering the question about the non-attempt at Senate reform.

The worst part was at the end when you thanked him for being a straight talker. My response was WTF?

I have been watching you on MSNBC since you were guesting on Countdown, and I have never seen you allow ANYONE to own you the way Sharrod Brown did tonight.

You are the smartest, most insightful and inquisitve host on TV, not just MSNBC. But tonight with this story, you sucked and you sucked huge.

Please follow up tomorrow with something, anything to fix this.

I was disappointed during the corrections segment. Good on you, Ms. Maddow, for acknowledging that there were dissenting voices at the inauguration. Also, thanks for not mentioning that one group; that's a great editorial policy that I wish more outlets would adopt. But in the same breath that mentioned these groups protesting, you went on to dismiss protests and activism, saying that no one pays attention to protestors in Washington anyway. 

Though you were careful to add qualifiers like "in Washington," consider the broader implication. A publicly liberal pundit, one of the smartest people on television, who has personally participated in ACT-UP, arguably the most successful activist organization in recent memory, is telling the would-be climate activist, or LGBTQ-rights activist, or Occupier, that their planned efforts don't matter. Not only do you have the authority to speak on this topic from personal experience, but the fact that you can literally look into the camera and give your take on an issue and sway opinions and public discourse nationwide, and particularly on the Left, demands a more responsible approach to this issue. Consider that if an issue is important enough for average citizens to demonstrate, to protest, to be heard, it is likely that that issue is not receiving adequate attention in the media, and without a camera and a highly rated prime-time news hour, that issue will only receive attention through public demonstration, through spectacle, through disruption of daily routines.

Rachel, you are a hero of fearless progressive journalism. Don't dissuade the everyday progressive heroes from caring enough to get off the couch and do something about their convictions.
