Tonight's guests include:
E.J. Dionne, columnist for the Washington Post, MSNBC contributor and author of "Our Divided Political Heart"
Bill Burton, former White House Deputy Press Secretary, co-founder of Priorities USA PAC and currently executive vice president and managing director at Global Strategy Group
Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize winning economist, Princeton professor of economics and international affairs, New York Times columnist and author of "End This Depression Now!"
Cue the Monday music!
Here's executive producer Bill Wolff with a look at tonight's show:

Ol' Krugman he's a dandy. Nobody can wreck an economy like he can.
I'm glad that Dr. Krugman joins TRMS tonight. The cast and guests of Morning Joe this morning just did not have the ability to recognize the truth to the doctor's prescription for the economy and Rachel will certainly give him the time for it!
Dr Krugman's "Occupy Handbook" ? Does that entail all the progressive 1%? Does he berate "wealthy" Hollywood, media or academics who are affluent? Put your money where your mouth is and pay more taxes then. Do the 1040EZ form and take no deductions.
The fact is you only want others to pay Draconian taxes, not in your wallet, by gosh.
Someone has been watching Fox news. Heres a clue the people you are whining about have all supported tax increases on their wealth it has been conservative that have been whining they pay to much taxes while hiding their wealth off shore. Here is another fact that eludes you taxes are not a punishment but rather what you pay to enjoy government services that you couldn't afford if the private industry did those services.
Rachel —
Woe "are" them? Linguistics wasn't your forte, I see.
The old expression "woe is me" — really, really old, such that it was in English when English was centered around Bremen Town. In German the expression is "Weh ist mir", familiar this side of the water in the Yiddish, "Oy vay ismir".
Now English has lost most of its inflections, but German has kept most from those days, and "mir" is Dative. Ich, mein, mir, mich. I, mine, "to me", me. See, the Dative, the case of the Indirect Object, has disappeared, so we have to cobble it together from pieces.
The expression "woe is me" is literally "woe is unto me".
In this light, it is plain that your choice should have been "woe is them", or upon them, or unto them.
As I should have mentioned yesterday in that post, the point really is that to use the verb "are" is incorrect because the subject is "woe" not "they, them". "Them" is the indirect object.
Maybe you could say "Woes are them"?
Regarding the Southwestern Governor clause in the immigration proposal, what happens *after* the republican governors block implementation? They preside over states that are rapidly changing demographically. It seems reasonable to think that blocking implementation puts the governors in the position as being seen as the sole obstacle to something that a growing portion of their constituents care deeply about. I wonder what that does for the chances of democrats taking upcoming gubernatorial races?
Texas does not have a State Income Tax and has a Sales Tax of 8.25%...compare with California, New York, etc. that have an income tax and a sales tax. With our sales tax food is not taxed, but all the "unreported income" is "taxed" when spent on the bling, cars, etc. and it is not collected in the states with income taxes.
And Texas ranks 38th out of 51 (50 states plus DC) on the human development index -- behind California, New York, Florida, etc.
This means that, on average, Texans have less access to education, earn less, and die younger than residents of 37 other states (including all the high tax states).
One of the worst things about increasing sales tax and lowering income tax is when you have a recession or even a dip in the economy, when you need the money most, your tax base drops as people cut back. It may drop as well from lost jobs but it is less dramatic because the income tax rate stays the same for those still working. They did this in South Carolina and for a state that relies on tourism the tax funds dried up quickly leaving only locals buying groceries, gas, clothes etc. to carry the state.
The Organizing for America email was likely sent using send-time optimization. In fact, I'm sure the OFA team is shrewd enough to be using multiple email optimization techniques. Google "email optimization"
I'm a staunch democrat but am perplexed as to why raising income taxes and lowering sales taxes is considered a good thing. It appears to me that raising income taxes would penalize those who are working while lowering sales taxes benefit those who are nonworking retirees and wealthy individuals like Romney who don't need to work. In Massachusetts, there are no sales taxes on necessities such as food and clothing, so the nonworking poor would likely see little benefit to lower sales taxes. The wealthy spend more freely and would likely benefit the most by lower sales taxes. In addition, a lower sales tax would reduce state income from tourists.
To clarify my earlier post - in oppostion to what is happening in republican states that are proposing eliminating income taxes and increasing sales tax - the democratic governor of Massachusetts is suggesting raising income taxes while reducing sales taxes. Is this what the people of Massachusetts really want? Unless someone can enlightenment me, I can't support that idea.
Massdana,
Sales taxes generally hit the poor and middle class harder than the rich. This is because while someone like Mitt Romney makes 400 times what a guy making $50,000 a year, people like Mitt do not spend 400 times the average guy on goods subject to sales tax. Remember, real estate and investments are not subject to sales tax, and a man can only use so many flat screen TV's.
FINALLY SOME ROCK N ROLL! thank goodness ....
Just report "bull-pucky" - as "lies" its stupid to cover the lie itself, is it or isn't it a republican trick? Its a faceless lie. Just report the "bull" ...as is. Its funny to call it "bull-pucky" but it misses the story, which is; republicans think they can get away with lying to the American public, to us.
Another request for the bullpucky segment.
Could you refrain from the siren, it really grates. Like those really loud and obnoxious SALE ,SALE, SALE!! advertisements.
Otherwise, love your work. Cheers
