Pres. Obama talks immigration reform in Las Vegas today. And unlike the Senate's plan, his is expected to include same-sex couples.
WI Gov. Scott Walker now has "real concern" about changing the state's allocation of electoral votes.
Tracing a gun used in a crime is not as easy as it looks on CSI.
How Sec. Clinton paid off her campaign debt.
The Boy Scouts of America may end its policy of banning gays.
So much for closing Guantanamo.

In NYC on Feb. 6 you can be part of history in the making. Support the people VS. the NDAA in their court appeal. They already won a favorable ruling but the government has demanded an appeal. I hope this will gain media coverage and support. Here is a link for the details - https://www.facebook.com/events/123804614457311/
REading about the Immigration Bill introduced bipartisanly but one day before The Pres introduced his. Republicans worried about Hispanic voters who they disparaged in past campaigns. Getting ready for protest at NRA Hdqtrs 7 miles away, getting clothing collected for freezing Syrian children and getting ready to show Bowling for Columbine.
n the Republicans' attempt to control the electoral college for presidential races, where swing States with Republican governors and holding a majority of the legislatures, I've noticed these governors are not so enthusiastic to sign into law these changes. Why not? Gerrymandering would indicate a definite advantage in the electoral college for a Republican to gain in a presidential election. In fact, if all swing States had adopted these rules, Romney would have won even though Obama received about 5% more of the popular vote!
So why the lack of enthusiasm from the governors? These are "swing" States where the demographics indicate a huge majority of Democrats in densely populated areas. And, these are the people who voted in record numbers because of GOP voter suppression tactics during 2012. Therefore, if voters believe they are being disenfranchised by their Governors, they will turn out in great numbers to unseat their present Governor in upcoming election -- all statewide elections are determined by popular vote. Any excuses they offer is bull@!$%#.
"...leaving local sponsoring organizations free to decide for themselves whether to admit gay scouts."
Bull@!$%# end-run to try to placate the money guys on their national board. Little Billy Bob in the local troop in Alabama will still enjoy the luxury of being buggered by his wholesome, heterosexual Scout Master, free from the Menace of Teh Ghey.
Who would have thought that Republican Brownshirts would express concerns/reservations/doubts of any kind about changing state election laws to further the pernicious goals of REDMAPPING? It would be perfectly legal, so the only reason TeaHadists like Gov. Walker or Gov. Ultrasound would be wary is that they don't want to be seen as political subversives, trying to thwart basic democratic principles. That's exactly what they are, of course, but, up to this point, they seem to have preserved some measure of plausible deniability. Their hardcore constituents are quite content to forcibly impose their ideology and theology on everyone, but neither these zealots, nor the sock puppets they elect, want to be seen for what they are.
This is not to say that they have shame, or consciences when it comes to their strategy in the culture wars. Rather, it suggests that they have a weakness, exposure of their true wrathful nature, their ruthlessness and disregard for people as opposed to ideolgy. That weakness, EXPOSURE, is our strength, and in this, as in so many other issues, Rachel has lead the way. Her broadcasts on this issue jarred the Mainstream Media out of its inertia (if not its cowardice), and exposed this electoral Al Quaida to the light of public scrutiny. It seems to be the one weapon we have, so we should be relentless in applying it to all of their devious activities.
This came across one of my 'feeds' this morning: Iceland let's banks fail, sees economy blossom
Would love to see a pro/con discussion. I'm not sophisticated in economics so I don't know one way or another if this was really a good idea. I just am fascinated in all things Icelandic. Anyone have any thoughts?
Rachel, Did you hear what the Gov. of VA said to Chuck Todd this morning; he thinks the government should stay out of stepping in to conversations about football safety for school kids and leave it up to the parents, kids & their doctors. But it is O.K. for the government to probe females?

Reading about gun violence statistics this morning and wishing the data wasn't so outdated. http://www.theatlanticcities.com/neighborhoods/2012/12/geography-us-gun-violence/4171/

Susan from Texas. Stay there please. FYI the Republicans are every bit as weak as they portray themselves to be.
Great. Now if the Boy Scouts will just rescind their policy of banning atheists, maybe I'll let my son join.
this morning on my way to work i was listening to "Voices of Montana", a state-wide conservative radio program, with host Aaron Flint. he had a caller on who was very upset about Boy Scouts of America ending its "ban" on gays. he was complaining that the tents were small, and during a camp-out, this would put his son in a "too close" proximity with gays if one of the 3 or 4 other boys in the tent happened to gay. he said there was "no way" he would ever put his son in that position. i couldn't grasp from the callers comments whether he thought a gay child would take advantage of his son, or if he thought his son could "catch the gay". i believe that people are ignorant about this subject, because they have been "taught" to fear what they are unfamiliar with, or maybe just because they think being gay is a "choice", and is "sinful".
we are making progress, but we still have a long way to go, and there will always be some IGNORANCE from the ignorant who say hurtful things.
