Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) delivered quite a speech to the National Review Institute over the weekend, declaring that Republicans "are and should be the party of the 47 percent," his party should embrace routine hostage strategies, and he still wants to privatize Social Security out of existence.
But for all of the right-wing senator's nonsense, this was the comment that warrants special attention.
In this clip, at around the 37:06 mark, Cruz notes that the Senate has "two pending nominations, John Kerry and Chuck Hagel." Describing the nominees, Cruz added, "Both of whom are very prominently..."
After pausing for a few moments, the event's moderator said, "Anti-us?" Cruz responded that Kerry and Hagel are "less than ardent fans of the U.S. military."
Perhaps Ted Cruz would benefit from a reminder about the men he's attacking. John Kerry is a decorated war hero who was awarded combat medals including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts. Chuck Hagel is a decorated war hero who was awarded combat medals including the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, two Purple Hearts, Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Cruz, meanwhile, who apparently considers himself an "ardent fan of the U.S. military," has never worn a uniform, except maybe on Halloween.
I have a simple request of chickenhawks: try not to impugn the character of decorated war heroes who've done what you only like to talk about.
The Texas Republican has developed a reputation for delivering "bonkers" speeches, but even for him, Cruz's comments over the weekend were cheap and offensive.

Yeah I really never could understand how John Kerry could let his awards for honor be used against him. I only hope his and his nameless opponent's membership in skull and bones had nothing to do with it. As far as Ted Cruz goes, ship him back to Canada.
I bet this baffoon wore a uniform other than halloween.... I bet he had to wear one when he was working fast food.
If I were from Texas, I would be embarrassed to have this man as a Senator. Come on Austin, kick this guy out.
Armchair Quarterback.....!
Looks like everything has been said about Cruz, the teabager.
The only "happiness" :-( I get out of this is that I live in Texas and DID NOT VOTE for this #jerkwad.
I am from Texas and embarassed to admit it when I hear our Senators and Representatives spewing crap like this. For me this says much about the gerrymandered districts that elected them and the mindset of the fringe Republicans who control our state...I miss the likes of Barbara Jordan, Lloyd Bentson, Jim Wright just to name a few. I keep thinking this too shall pass and one day we will see blue again.
Indeed!

Regarding GLB and Gramm--the fact of the matter is that the legislation was specifically requested by SecTreas Rubin, fully supported by Clinton, and received overwhelming bi-partisan support of both parties in both chambers.

Your comments regarding John Kerry & Chuck Hagel are most disturbing.
John Kerry is a decorated war hero whose combat medals include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts.
Chuck Hagel is a decorated war hero whose combat medals include the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, two Purple Hearts, Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
You should be ashamed of yourself, and deserve to be humiliated for the remarks you have made about these military heros, saying they are "less than ardent fans of the U.S. military."
Let me know when you put on a uniform and serve meritouriously.
thnx , sent
Thank you. Sent also.
Another "COWARDLY LION".
Can you imagine the texans who voted this quack into office , pumping their chests out in pride after hearing this BS ? Seriously , this is what the GOP worship these days
PUKE!!!!!
Cruz is the perfect poster child to get more dems elected in 2014 tho
Back when they were swift-boating John Kerry, Rush Limbaugh actually said that, While kerry was in a firefight with the V.C, Rush said that Kerry shot a boy in the back, what's so heroic about that? People like Rush that have never worn the uniform should shut the #$%@ up, for Cruz the same thing, never served, but wants to say that Hagel and Kerry dislike the country, they both have shed blood for, as they both have Purple hearts, what kind of creep did the people elect, for this big mouth coward to bad mouth, men that are geniune Statesman and Warriors for the United States, The Republican party needs to dump this clown before he sinks the party deeper and deeper in to Bat-#$%@ Crazy terroritory
I believe it's revealing that Sen. Cruz, in his attempt to disparage Sens. Hagel and Kerry as not being, "Ardent fans of the US military," would choose to resurrect the words, " . . . nattering nabobs of negativism . . . ," written by William Safire and spoken by then Vice President Spiro Agnew. Sen. Cruz should remember that in 1974, Agnew was forced to resign his office in disgrace after pleading no contest to charges of tax fraud. A lawyer, Agnew was later disbarred by his home state of Maryland which referred to him as, "Morally obtuse." Someone should remind Sen. Cruz that, to coin a phrase, "You're known by the company you quote."
the GOP/Tea Party only talk about the military because they're too scared to serve their country as a member of the Armed Forces! They like to send someone's father, son, daughter, Mother, cousin, uncle, aunt into battle, but they would be scared *****less if they had to face an enemy who was shooting at them! Dick Cheney chickened out five times. But he was gung ho to send other people's relatives and friends into battle to he could make huge profits off of the wars!
This is exactly what you would expect from a slimey little coward who is only free because someone else served to protect his cowardly ass!!!!Give him a gun and send his ass to war and then see which end of his body he speaks from. But right now he talks through his ass because his face knows better.....Just think Texas will be Democratic when this @!$%# runs for office again !!!!!!!!!
Time and time and time again, great civilizations that overextend their military capabilities collapse. Each decade, since WWII, we've engaged in war and our only decisive win was Grenada. When will we ever learn?
Forget Cruz, remember what Kerry did with his medals. I don't recall the men who served with him bragging on him. Appears to me, there are nuts on both sides of the aisle. I think we should send them all home and start over.
History records many men who served alongside Kerry came to his defense.
But as with science you got to belive in facts which is something no Republicans would dare do.
Typical. He pretends to have credibility on military matters even if he has zero military experience while the rest of his ilk pretend they have credibility over reproductive rights even if they don't have vaginas.
All the ranting and raving means nothing if you do not get out and vote.
I checked Cruz's bio on Wikipedia, and sure enough, he's Southern Baptist. They're the religion that talks about "once saved, always saved," and about earning "jewels in their crowns" for doing good deeds here on earth. Sadly, Cruz, whose name is Spanish for "cross", seems not to care as much about the Cross of Christ as he does about his own Crown, otherwise he'd be much more humble when he talks about other children of God who have put their lives on the line to protect his freedoms, as Kerry and Hagel have done, and hesitant to "judge, lest he be judged" by the One he believes has paid the price for his salvation with His life. I wonder what Jesus would think about such a display of ingratitude?
Hey, Steve, you made Fox Nation all sad and pouty:

Leave it to the people of Texas; They elect one complete @!$%# after another. Now let's hear Gomert come out with some bull@!$%# outer limits story. Hey Cruz; Will you please disclose your military service record?
Oy! Just when I thought it couldn't get any more embarrassing to live in Texas...
I can't wait for school to let out for my girls so we can get the hell out of this wasteland.
I believe it is well documented that very, very few of our elected or appointed officials are now or ever have been in the military service of this country. I would take that question one generation further...what about their kids. We know the answer. Today's military is not where the blue-bloods, the indulged, the enabled off-spring of this country's politicians go to learn how to become responsible, sacrificing, productive members of our society. The heroes of my youth were men and women of science, industry and finance; and men who had fought (or whose off-spring had fought) in WWII. Irrespective of their political affiliation they felt duty bound to go in harm's-way as a condition of citizenship. Just a few to ponder; Teddy Roosevelt Jr., Joseph Kennedy Jr., John Kennedy, David Eisenhower, four of FDR's sons... You get the point.
Ted Cruz is not a Hispanic. He is a coconut brown on the outside and white on the inside. That is how stupid he is.
Of course that's what we see and hear, but he's not really talking and the Cruz we see couldn't possibly be thinking. That would require him to be a real person, and/or with a real brain. It just looks and sounds like he's speaking! It's an old GOP trick: a type of ventriloquism. A tape player is whirring inside his wood-block head and handles the audio portion, and the TeaHag hand stuffed up his rear-end moves his lips. The lips must always be in sync with the audio, otherwise someone might catch on. Sometimes a small remote control is used to make the eyes blink. It's all an illusion! C'mon! Even a Texan should be able to figure that out.
