Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) delivered quite a speech to the National Review Institute over the weekend, declaring that Republicans "are and should be the party of the 47 percent," his party should embrace routine hostage strategies, and he still wants to privatize Social Security out of existence.
But for all of the right-wing senator's nonsense, this was the comment that warrants special attention.
In this clip, at around the 37:06 mark, Cruz notes that the Senate has "two pending nominations, John Kerry and Chuck Hagel." Describing the nominees, Cruz added, "Both of whom are very prominently..."
After pausing for a few moments, the event's moderator said, "Anti-us?" Cruz responded that Kerry and Hagel are "less than ardent fans of the U.S. military."
Perhaps Ted Cruz would benefit from a reminder about the men he's attacking. John Kerry is a decorated war hero who was awarded combat medals including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts. Chuck Hagel is a decorated war hero who was awarded combat medals including the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, two Purple Hearts, Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Cruz, meanwhile, who apparently considers himself an "ardent fan of the U.S. military," has never worn a uniform, except maybe on Halloween.
I have a simple request of chickenhawks: try not to impugn the character of decorated war heroes who've done what you only like to talk about.
The Texas Republican has developed a reputation for delivering "bonkers" speeches, but even for him, Cruz's comments over the weekend were cheap and offensive.

"Read the KoolAid" ? Huh, pulled that one out of his butt.
"Stop reading the NYT". Yeah, until Murdock buys it, then it will be "I read in the NYT"
2:04. " standing athwart history". Huh?
This guy talks the same way Oxy Rush and Beck and the rest talk, in similes, parables, double speak, innuendos, mixed ideas, incomplete and run on sentences. People who listen to him and say they understand him, are too embarrassed to say they did not understand his points. They are part of the group that still does not understand the emperor has no clothes, and are willing to go along with the charade.
This guy is a huge part of the stalemates.
Growth is back buddy. Houses prices are up, car sales are up, mortgage rates are down, and watch we will see major growth this year. Wonder how his shorts will taste when this year kicks butt.
"A lot of folks in this room remember 1978-1979". He remembers playing with his buddies. He was 8 and 9. Back to the NYT, again up until Murdock buys it and changes it to the basic Clear Channel Mantra.
If he is the Hispanic of the future, no thanks.
I would bet 77% of all Americans believe their grandkids and kids will have material wealth, not just Hispanics.
Good, the children of Reagan, who raised taxes what, 9, 10 times? A pres who had Alzeheimers for the ladt years of his presidency? That is who you will emulate? Wow.
As an Austinite and a Dem, I'd like to remind all of you that 3 out of 4 papers in TX endorsed Sadler-Ted Cruz' Dem opponent-while also endorsing Romney. Cruz was too looney even for the R conservative papers. Cruz election is a perfect example of an uninformed, knee jerk electorate. Some Latinos and blacks voted for him as a minority. The Rs pulled the straight party lever and the yahoos will not vote for anyone who is not a rabid conservative. We are getting the government we deserve and it ain't pretty. Sadler was an EXCELLENT candidate who had no money from the DNC. So.....we all pay for this short sightedness.
If Ted Cruz is less than ardent fan of the U.S. military, perhaps, he is an ardent fan of the NRA?
