I went looking today for the Virginia Senate committee that is set to consider changing the way the state divides up its electoral college vote. That idea looks to be more or less toast in Virginia, as in the other Republican-controlled blue states.
But check out the list of bills related to elections and voting in the committee's bin. Pop quiz: Is the bill titled -- "Elections; minimizing voting lines" -- sponsored by a Republican or a Democrat? How about "Polling place procedures; voter identification requirements"?
For people who follow this stuff, the questions on this pop quiz will be rhetorical, almost without exception. It's remarkable how partisan the issue of voting itself remains, even after the experience of 2012.

That TV Ad of wounded warrior is just too much. Here they have a women crying “Oh this wasn’t suppose to happen” as they took a man in a wheel chair out of a vehicle. What really does this women think happens, when we go to war that it’s a picnic where our troops have shooting practice at our supposed foes. War is horrific and total butchery and created by very stupid people. And war just creates more hatred and murder with no real rational thought behind it. It is the worst of what our species does and just shows how we are not that superior species that certain people like to claim we are. If we were to be that superior species, you would have to have some real good answers and solutions than just plain stupidity in having a war of butchery and murder.
Voting has only become "partisan" since the GOTP have moved farther and farther into the deep end of crazy and started losing elections. Before this "voting" wasn't a partisan issue. Now it's a matter of the GOTP realizing that their policies aren't winning them elections, so now they want to rig the elections in their favor. And why isn't their behavior any different from Bashar Hafez al-Assad (President of Syria) wanting to remain in control of "his country"? Both are attempting to "hold on" to what is no longer theirs - big difference is Assad has the military fighting for him and the GOTP is rigging the system for their own benefit!
VOTE THESE STAINS ON DEMOCRACY OUT OF PUBLIC OFFICE!
Dear Deb + 7 numbers.
Have you noticed the little lead in to the posting section where it says :
DISCUSS THIS POST !
While I appreciate your enthusiasm it is somewhat difficult to focus on the random topics .
TV ad? What effin teevee ad?
This sounds like an unsettled and confused minded Republican.
Well, let's not forget that for some of us who are partisan hacks (not me, but us as in Republican state legislators and an occasional Republican governor) voting only works when we can get the right people to the polls, and then, get them to pull the lever for the Right brand!
Wow, how bold can these ne'erdowells in Republican suits be until they realize they're harboring ill-begotten thoughts toward their fellow Americans, and manifesting such thoughts into anti-American policies?
Answer: Probably never! -Kevo
rethuglicans cannot win without lies and cheating. their disdain for the vast majority of Americans is evident. they would prefer to deny seniors their social security and medicare (both of which we pay into our entire working lives), deny food stamps for the poor while they cater to their rich friends. how low can they go???
EVERYTHING is a partisan issue now. Basic conservation is an issue, with the Republicans literally urging people to leave all the lights on in the house simply to "stick it" to environmentalists. It is now "conservative" to deliberately waste limited resources just to piss off your political opponents.
No kidding. I know a guy who used to recycle. Used to use his pick-up truck only when he had a really large load to haul. But that was about 4 yrs ago. Now, it's too much trouble to recycle. "And I'm using more gas than I save by recycling". Well, quite possibly; he sold his fuel efficient car and uses the pick up for eery outing (and tries to think us as many trips as possible).
This is refreshing, when have you heard a politician from ANY party say anything like this :
Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.,
"I would tell you as you talk about Jim Messina, the president lost North Dakota by almost 22 percentage points and I was still elected the United States senator and I was elected because I promised people I was going to be their voice not the voice for a political party, not the voice for a president who happens to be in the same political party that I am but I am the voice for the people of North Dakota," Heitkamp says. "I'll make my decisions based on what I believe is in the best interest of the people of North Dakota, the people of this country. And if in six years people don't agree that I made the right choices, I'll find something else to do."
