Tonight's guests include:
Steve Schmidt, Republican political strategist, senior strategist for the McCain-Palin campaign, and MSNBC contributor
Jose Antonio Vargas, Pulitzer prize-winning journalist, undocumented immigrant and founder of Define American
Here's tonight's soundtrack! In memory of the great Leroy Bonner.
And here's executive producer Bill Wolff with a look at tonight's show:

Sad to hear of Leroy Bonner...long live soul...here's one from Bettye LaVette that I think captures the spirit in which musicians of the many venues, especially soul, endured and in which was actually the fruit of their survival. I so love soul music, It just goes right into you and lifts you up...beautifully. Try this!
Oh yeah. THAT'S what we be talkin about!
Should we prepare for any bullpucky alerts???
Why is the story about giving Amgen 500 million dollars not being reported on MSNBC?I would think every show would want to highlight this behand the scenes gift. If BillMoyers has the facts surly you are aware of this shady transaction.
I'm watching the Steve Schmidt segment now and wanted to pass along that Bill O'Reilley used the words "Illegal Aliens" to describe undocumented workers about 6 times during his segment tonight on immigration. When he did the first time I thought maybe he just goofed, apparently not.
Loving the coverage of the immigration process. I have to admit...I am torn regarding where I stand on this issue. I have been in this country for 13 years...I have spent thousands of dollars on legal/immigration fees (my children's college fund, essentially) to legally maintain my and my family's status in this country. Since 911, the promised sponsorship/support from my husband's company was "reviewed" and essentially altered...leaving us with few options and many bills. We all have valid green cards now...but cannot afford the $800+ we would have to pay to apply for citizenship (with 2 kids in college, and their college fund supporting the DHS and immigration lawyer firms that we had no choice in hiring (hubby's company dictated who we had to hire...but refused to pay!) We have bent over backwards to respect the letter of the law for this country that we are grateful to be guests of. To think that those who chose to ignore these laws, could somehow get by without penalty...makes me want my money back!
I agree with you and no matter what , the rule of law should be followed. You are doing it the right way even though it is probably the hardest thing you ever had to do . I commend you on your courage. People today don't understand that this country was built by people like you. the path to citizenship should not be decided on whether you can hop a fence or be able to swim.
Rachel, great show about the "Changing GOP" with not just immigration but with everything.
Let's remind everyone that the definition of conservatism means "NO CHANGE" (look it up)
That means, when Republicans start "changing" their ways just to cater to NEW demographics...
They become DEMOCRATS! ...Use that on your next show!
The GOP cannot give up conservatism, you know, those Grand Old values.
They would have to start a new political party to cater to a new constituency.
I really want this message to get to you so I'm posting it in a few other article so please do not get mad at me.
Thanks for your great show.
King Obama and his his minions are ruining this country. The GAO report proves that the government spending is not sustainable yet, liberal supporters say "...the debt ceiling is not a problem, just increase the ceiling." The dollar will collapse soon and I just hope that you who support this socialist/communist regime will starve with no food and be at the mercy of armed-thugs.
Republicans try to cover their dishonesty by claiming that all politicians are dishonest. Somehow this tactic needs to be made so visible that it will cease to work. Putting up with this generation of republicans is certainly tiring. I am so tired that the results are turning up to be hatred. I genuinely try to avoid republicans in my day to day affairs. If possible I avoid businesses that are avowedly republican.
Liberals pay no attention to the facts. The USA is broke. I'm tired of paying taxes for all those illegals, ghetto moms and thos that collect SSI benefits from "bad-back" syndrome. The USA was founded on the principle it's only job was to protect this country from foreign invaders, not civil rights, not so gays can marry, or loose women can have abortions on tax-payer money. FYI, I'm of latino ethnicity, so I'm not a racist. I just don't care for those that don't carry their own weight.
RE: the immigration proposal that undocumented workers pay fines and "back taxes." In addition to being severely punitive, it ignores the fact that undocumented have to work under a Social Security number of some kind, so THEY'VE ALREADY PAID THEIR TAXES! Let's get real about the contributions immigrants make every day in our country, rather than demonizing them.
Ms. Maddow should be ashamed of fawning over Jose Antonio Vargas. First, he did NOT win the Pulitzer, not in the sense that most people would mean. The fact is that the Washington Post itself was awarded the prize for its collective coverage of the Virginia Tech terror, and Vargas was one of a very large number of reporters and editors (like, probably, all available staffers) who worked together. The Post itself said that 50 journalists in addition to 11 byline reporters contributed. If he told you HE won the Pulitzer, he is lying. He originally got his job at the Post by misrepresenting his legal status on his job application and other documents and at one point obtained a fraudulent driver's license to use company cars. A number of people who knew him at the Post have publicly said that they didn't like him and didn't trust him, that he "needed constant watching." This is not the guy you should be relying on about immigration reform.

King Obama is a big (__o__) and he is ruining this country. The GAO report confirms this country is broke and the spending is unsustainable. The dollar will soon collapse and I hope that all the socialists/communists starve and are at the mercy of armed-thugs.
"...Without debate, without criticism, no Administration and no country can succeed-and no Republic can survive...And that is why our press was protected by the 1st Amendment-the only business in America specifically protected by the Constitution...to state our dangers and our opportunities, to indicate our crises and our choices." John F. Kennedy, speech against secrecy. Obama is ruining this country and the mainstream media take advantage of their Constitutional rights by not exposing him for his bad decisions.
Could you guys get a better picture of Bill Wolff ? That one makes him look like a serial killer. Very creepy.
Just saying
I grew up riding horses with Brian Sandoval's family and I can assure you, they are not Hispanic. I don't know if this is a fallacy perpetrated by the right (token) or just a misconception. He may have some Hispanic in his family's history, but calling him Hispanic is like calling me Norse.
