This visual goes a long way in explaining why Republicans decided to get on board with immigration reform.

The Republican share of the Hispanic vote is getting smaller and smaller with each presidential election, while the opposite is true for Democrats.
You can see this happening not only on the national level, but also in traditionally red states. In 2004, for example, in Arizona, George W. Bush lost the Hispanic vote to John Kerry by 13 percentage points. That gap widened to 55 points in 2012 when Mitt Romney garnered only 22% of the Hispanic vote to Barack Obama’s 77%.
Even deep red states like Texas registered their dismay. John McCain lost the Hispanic vote by 28 points to Barack Obama in 2008, but Mitt Romney managed to make even that loss look good. Romney finished 41 percentage points behind Obama among Hispanic voters in Texas. You can check out the trend in other states here.

The Teapublicons are closing the gap! Soon when the old FOX watchers kick the bucket there will just one more demographic for them to work on!
On immigration reform: we are finally having this conversation. Huzzah. On the same, I ultimately predict, among the factions, a political Kumbayah. I however disagree with Obama's proposition yesterday that a procedural pecking order of importance should favor those who have otherwise made formal, proper and documented application toward U.S. citizenship. Such a requirement would run contra to the reputed policy justification that immigrant groups, like the "dreamers", are among a class requiring immediate redress of foreseeable and unreasonable harm. No need for a procedural caste system. Every prospective U.S. citizen requires no less than equal regard.
Thomas
So you really believe that people that enter the country illegally should be rewarded for doing the wrong thing? Much to my dismay (grumble grumble) I think the president is right on this aspect. If you go through the proper channels you should definitely be at the head of the line.
To the Right "Entering the country illegally" means swimming the Rio Grande or climbing over a fence.
The facts are that many only became "illegal" by overstaying their visa- be it work, study, or tourist. Not too different from driving with an expired license.
Shocking as it may be, some of these "illegals" are white, and come from places like Ireland.
When the Right says "illegal" they really mean "not like me". And that has always applied to newcomers, be they Irish, German, or Italian immigrants, in the last century.
Agreed. Somehow, I don't see them thinking about Svetlana and Fredrika overstaying her visa.
Oh get over yourself. The last number I saw was that only 40 % are here overstaying their visas. That leaves 60% of 11,000,000 people that found other ways of getting in illegally. As I said before in other posts, I don't care what color you are, if you are an honest law abiding person I don't have a problem with you.
Well, by that logic, the only people who should be in America are the Native Americans.
Just sayin.
Finally we agree.
Then get the f*ck out, inspeckkktor.
These numbers prove that no matter how much pandering the GOP does, they loose. They are just too beholden to the rule of law and the Constitution, plus they don't have a Robin Hood mentality on wealth redistribution.
These old white dudes are never gonna "score". They don't romance this voting block right.
ricky
Robinhood was a tale about a guy that stole from the king to give money to poor hard working farmers and villagers that were overtaxed so much that they didn't have enough to eat. That story has nothing to do with what the democrats of today Are trying to do to the producers of America. As for being "beholden to the rule of law and the Constitution? Just remember you said that the next time your section 8 housing is broken into and stripped clean by some crackhead. In your case voter suppression would be a good thing.
You ASSume that everyone except yourself has section 8 housing. You have a mean case of projection there, inspekkktor.
And you have no idea what the Democrats are doing or what they are about because your head is so far up your ass you can't see anything but sh*tty right wing talking points.
No Donna I ASSume that little ricky either lives in his moms basement or section 8 because of the foolish comment he posted. XXOO
And we all can ASSume that you live in your mother's basement or section 8 because of the stupid right wing sh*t that you post.
And you can shove that XXOO up your ass.

EVERYONE should follow EVERY law. When laws are broken, consequences should be wielded. Our constitution has served us well and we should adhere to it. As far as the Robin Hood mentality on wealth redistribution, it never works. Those who have wealth will stop working and loaf like the others who are receiving the money that others earned. There are multiple countries who are shining examples of that policy. If I work hard and make lots of money, why should I continue if the government takes it and gives it to those who don't work in order to "level the playing field". When the playing field is leveled, no one will have any aspirations to do better. Just get the meager pay check and live like everyone else. Great things happen when people think they can better their lives for themselves and their families. If that dream is made tepid due to everyone being the same, the dream is gone.
I think this is where the Right gets it wrong. Obama wants to level the playing field of OPPORTUNITY, not RESULTS. He's not proposing that ALL Americans ultimately end up in roughly the same place, but rather ALL Americans should be afforded the same opportunity to live the "American Dream". Why GOPs continually state that the President wants to "evenly distribute" wealth is beyond me. He wants to evenly distribute opportunity. What happens with that opportunity is up to the individual.
Missy
This is America, Opportunity is evenly distributed and innovation is rewarded. That is what the constitution says. We don't need liberal politicians to pick the winners and losers.
Bull@!$%# inspeckkktor.
Get your head out of your rear and join the real world, not the crazy republican bubble you live in.
Nuthin but big sloppy wet kisses for ya Donna. XXOO
I can see right through that poopie diaper of yours.
Actually Donna I live in a brick ranch on a couple of acres. I only vacation in my crazy republican bubble.
Seems like you save those big sloppy wet kisses for your mother whom you live with. XXOO
And it makes sense that you would reference depends because you and that mom of yours use them all the time.
And as for your ranch bullsh*t: Yeah, right. And you are also President of the United States as well as a talk show host named Dr. Phil.
Of course you and your delusions are believable!
Donna, Those anger management classes are working out pretty well for you aren't they. Oh and thanks for your lovely thoughts about my mother If she hadn't died of cancer 10 years ago she would probably thank you herself. Love ya lots baby.
LOL!
I don't get angry over idiot trolls like you, inspeckkktor.
And thanks for your lovely thoughts about people you don't know and don't have your f*cked up right wing viewpoints being on some sort of public assistance and wearing diapers.
And I could care less about your mother or if she is dead or alive.
And maybe she could even be glad that she is dead so she isn't alive to see what a colossal disappointment you are.
And I wouldn't thank her for giving birth to such a d*ck like you.
And save that love for your inbred mother, baby.
In the words of the late Steve Irwin.. "Man she's Grumpy"
BTW Donna
What is your Obamaphone number? You need to come on over to the trailor park and have some mad dog 20/20 with me, Or do you prefer Thunderbird?
What is your rush limpball phone number?
And I don't associate myself with trailer park trash like you.
And do you prefer to f*ck your mother or your sister?
Uh-oh -- not one, not two, but three 3-D pie charts. To show two numbers each. On one of my favorite blogs. Now tearing my not-blonde hair out. May I respectfully suggest a copy of Edward Tufte's The Visual Display of Quantitative Information, and/or The Cognitive Style of Power Point, for each MaddowBlog (and show) writer? Thanks.
Sen Cruz from Texas is not a Tex-Mex as he claims! He was born in Canada, Calgary to be specific, so he's a Can-Tex!
In other words he's a Canadian with a Latino name!
