RIP, Patty Andrews.

I love the fact that Paul's worried about "welfare" payments to people who come here to work extremely hard in our society. Sorry, Senator, they're not the ones taking advantage of our "welfare state". They're the ones paying for it.
I am really tired of the term "gang of <insert number here>"!
Show some creativity, dammit, or risk being haunted by the ghost of Madame Mao.
Before we can address the issue of Immigration reform, we first need the permission of Rush Limbaugh, Erick Erickson and Marco Rubio. Before we can address the need for background checks on firearms, we must listen to the ramblings of Wayne LaPierre and the gun lobbyists. Before we can raise revenues on the wealthy, we must hear the insights of Grover Norquist. Before we can address Wall Street reform, we must ensure that the feelings of the bankers aren't hurt. Before we can pass Health reform, we need to make sure that Big Pharma and Big Insurance are happy with the deal. Before we can speak of addressing Global Warming, we must first convince Big Oil that Global Warming is real.
Exactly why nothing gets done.
Personally I think bombing a country in the throes of civil war is the BEST possible way to get it to spill over into your country. Netanyahu clearly disagrees.

Kinda skeevy tribute to Patty, guys. Points for including the Hawaii joke.
Yeah, I know. Awkward racial politics. I was kind of hoping you could get past that and enjoy the dancing. Also, why pretend that stuff never happened, you know?
I have been thinking about this and will cop to insensitivity born of privilege. I can turn pretty easily from "eww" to "okay" but I get why that's not possible for others.
That's always the trouble with old movies. There's a lot of great stuff and real talent there, and yet you never know when things are going to turn awkward. But that, at least in my view, wasn't really terrible. They weren't "talking black" or doing anything like that. It could be seen as a minor nod to the fact that America was a multi-cultural country even then, although you'd never know it looking at the folks in that nightclub...
You know, man, ya gotta... accentuate the positive!
Once white people start doing it it's no longer cool.
fo shizzle.
SMB, so really, The Andrews Sisters might just be responsible for the high five, because once they started singing about low fives, all the folks in Harlem were like, Well, now we've got to do something a little different!
Yeah, it's kind of weird to see three of the whitest women in the world doing a Jive song about how "they do it Harlem." It's not explicitly racist, but it's ... weird.
Listening to Lindsey Graham talking about the weak, addlepated, helpless women that need at least 15 rounds to frighten off an intruder (oh, no, 6 just won't do) and "defend her children". Silly me, I'm surprised that women have enough sense to not point the gun at themselves.
Dude. Really?
That, and reading the responses posted on the Rand Paul link. "Not being the stupid party" has fallen on ears that refuse to hear. There is such a complete seizure by the paralyzing, bitter fear that somewhere, somehow, some person of color (even in a parallel dimension) might possess a dollar that wasn't sufficiently "earned".
Plus, any intruder that doesn't turn tail and run after the first couple of shots is whacked out on meth or something. I don't care how big a criminal you are, gun shots make you reconsider your options!
Graham's explanation of the woman who can't hit the broad side of a barn reminded me of the talking Malibu Stacy doll - "Math is hard!" "Let's bake some cookies!"
"Thinking gives you wrinkles",,, Malibu Stacey
So now the world has 2 nominally protected fisheries,, the other 10 or so left will be fished out in 5 years? Killing our fisheries, poisoning our ground waters and soils,, stupid is as stupid does.
And how many jobs will be lost trying to protect this one? A thousand? Add that to the thousand jobs we might luz to stiffer gun control,,,
This has nothing to do with any headlines of the day.
But just watching the friended people on FB rant and rave about their hatred of other people, and their love of guns and crap, those people that are someone I used to, well, worship, it's incredibly humbling to think..."You know, if my most heartfelt dreams and wishes had come true, I might have been hitched to that."
Although painful at the time, looking back I am so grateful that it didn't happen that way.
Nothing earth-shattering, but thanks for letting me babble on for a bit.
