Rachel noted on the show last night that several states are pushing the legal boundaries in new ways in efforts to eliminate abortion rights, perhaps most notably in Arkansas.
And helping lead the way in Arkansas is Republican state Sen. Jason Rapert. Who's he? This is.
For those of you who can't watch clips online, in this video, Rapert is seen telling a public crowd in 2011:
"I hear you loud and clear, Barack Obama. You don't represent the country that I grew up with. And your values is not going to save us. We're going to take this country back for the Lord. We're going to try to take this country back for conservatism. And we're not going to allow minorities to run roughshod over what you people believe in!"
The video first appeared at The Nation, published a day after Rapart's bill to ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy was approved by the Arkansas Senate.
It's certainly rare to hear anyone, especially elected officials, talk in public about stopping "minorities" in the 21st century, and yet, here we are.
When Republicans get together to ponder why their outreach to African Americans doesn't seem especially effective, I hope they'll take a moment to ponder policymakers like Jason Rapert.

Republicans are still trying to polish their turds and then this guy poops out another one. Sad, really. :)
There is not much light between the tactics and language used by the Right, and the views that the Israeli right expressed to the demographic threat that the Israeli Palestinians pose for them. Separate schools, privilege for jews over arabs for government jobs, limitations on suffrage for arabs, the idea of self deportation: "We're keeping the land, but you are aliens here."
Public opinion in Israel is remarkably divided on the very idea of pluralistic values as shown in a recent poll. Is it any wonder the Right wing loves to link arms with the Israeli right wing parties who often use identical language? All of this stuff about voter suppression, gerrymandering, the righteous approval of god, "aliens" living inside our borders- It's all mirrored in the Israeli framing of their existential threats.
To the Israeli left- opposition to the apartheid policies is ironclad- whether the subject is Hitler's Germany or Israeli policies towards Israeli Palestinians. To the American left- that individual rights that must not be tread on represented by the snake on that man's flag applies as much to non white Americans as it does the white Ward Cleavers who feel they are being swallowed up.
Yeah, it's sad to realize Jews have no trouble being Nazis. This guy here, who is surprised that a Confederate dumbass is a Confederate dumbass, the product of ten generations of hillbilly incest?
Religuluous hardliners are a bane on humanities existence....
Don't call this jerk Ward Cleaver. Ward Cleaver never said anything derogatory about minority Americans.
The white male minority is always the majority in their own minds.
And yet always threatened....
the butt stank is strong with this one
Do not forgive them for they know exactly what they do! -Kevo
If I were the Lord I would'nt want him to take this country back for me. Not with people like him in it.
"Your values is not gonna save us."
Says it all. Ladies and gentlemen, our new C Student.
You beat me to it. What a maroon:)
"C" student? Perhaps with the grade inflation of the past 30 years. In my day that would have been an "F".
Throw off your chains, rich, white, straight, Christian men! Throw off your chains!
Well, that or go Galt.
There is a very thin veil between Christian Dominionism and white supremacism. This guy is one of those conspiracy kooks who believe that Obama is a Muslim. He wants to force everyone to believe in the same delusions he does. Well, I'm sorry, but the first first clause of the first amendment clearly states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."
Proves incestuous amplification isn't limited to inside the beltway.
Not to mention the prohibition of a religious test for public office... Even if he were a Muslim, he could still be president.
Further proof that those people really are as dumb as they sound when they try to talk.
And here I thought he was talking about the United States Senate.
I love it when bigots tell us how their "faith" justifies their bigotry.
Is he going to be so anti-minority in another couple of decades when demographers tell us that caucasians are going to be the minority?
They already ARE the minority, especially if you group women on the "2nd-class citizens list" that the GOP keeps!
This clown will be the first in line for the realignment camps.
On the contrary, this means he'll likely spend some time as the front-runner in the 2016 presidential primary. His campaign slogan: With a name like Rapert, you know he's a true conservative.
"Wait, you said Rapert twice."
"I like Rapert."
I grew up believeing we worship an all loving and all meciful God and that he loved all men and in following his beliefs we treated others as we would liked to be treated, we did not and to this day, do not, jude anyone by how they look or where they are from and it blows my mind how the people who claim to be so in touch with God are so quick to denmonize the poor. The demonize the poor, they partake in ridicule of others different from themselves and the worst part is they believe they are being persecuted for their beliefs when the constitution clearly states that there is a seperation of church and state so we can all remain free to practice whatever religion we choose. I just don't get these people.
The thing is, not all Christians are such hypocrites.
Proud to claim Jesus as my personal savior... and to remind others that HE was the original community organizer! Voted twice for Obama and will vote for Hillary & whomever she picks (hope it's Brian Schweitzer) in 2016.
Unfortunately, modern conservative Christianity has very little to do with the actual teachings of Jesus. It has little to do Christianity as a whole. Modern conservative Christianity is less about religious belief than political ideology.
What Repub outreach to minorities?
Gerrymandering? Voter suppression?
Making it clear who the "real" Americans are?
"I hear you loud and clear, GOP. You don't represent the country that I grew up with. And your values is not going to save us. We're going to take this country back for the PEOPLE. We're going to try to take this country back for sanity. And we're not going to allow fanatics to run roughshod over what you people believe in!"
Love your statement Mego!!!!!!
offensive or not, this guy is damned close to where the heart of the modern republican party is, in other words their center of gravity. yet, the msm (aka 'very serious people') thinks the democrats are honor bound to split the difference with them.
They just can't help themselves. There is no cure for "stupid".
Don't the GOP's new guidelines instruct him to change his name to Jason Rt?
I guess he's not a legitimate senator, or the body of Congress would have had a way to shut him down by now.
(Is that ever getting old?)
Eventually, eventually.
But I suspect none of us will still be around by then.
Absolute best part is the beginning.
Mission. Accomplished.
Wow, every time these creepy people speak. I get a chill up my spine. They must have a different God or should I say serve a different one. You can here the hate in his voice when he speaks. I just wish I could understand why they hate minority's so much. They were not slaves, killed, beaten mistreated but they hate us. Well lets hope he change his ways if not _UCK HIM!!!!
as someone here in this thread said, there's little difference if any between christian dominionist men and white supremacists. period.
Im a real pesemist all these folks think they are so religious and we see so many natural disasters happening in whats called the BIble Belt, listening to idiots like this guy can we blame the Good Lord for sending natural disasters to punish these people.
I have said for years that all those tornadoes hurricanes and flooding in states that are Bible belt labelled shows that someones damn pissed at them,. maybe the good lord is angry listening to people like this, people mixing his word with politics .
who gave idiots like this yahoo the right to tell others what the Lord wants? Maybe thats another reason they get all these disasters , and they say they pray to God to stop the destruction and that no one else dies,, and the Good Lord sends those disaster through those areas, another Tornado other day .
People just dont get it Remember in Bible it says render unto Ceasar whats due Ceasar and render to God whats due to God, it doesnt say mix it all up , or use Gods word in Ceasars domain, and when people do,maybe the Lord gets angry as its causing others to become angry at him and what he stands for because of a few dumb people, meaning listening to people like this and Rick Santorum about their religion,. It shows even God is scared what people will do with his word if not stopped,I have no doubt! just saying!
"Go-od" is a two syllable word to them.
WTH...is this guys' second job an Evangalist?! LOL!
yep: evangelist of the WWJD (who would jesus despise) branch of the church...
Who Would Jesus Denounce?
Could somebody tell me what the hell this guy was talking about? It sound to me like he just climbed out of the trees. It appears these new souls just don't understand where they came from.
I just can't wait to see the Republicans bring the country back to the Lord. And then the states will pass their versions of the Old Testament Shiria Law that would make Muslims PROUD! Google the "Salem Witch Trials" to see religion in action.
Poor goober. The prez has ALWAYS attend those stupid, awful National Prayer Breakfasts. He has celebrated Ramadan and Hannakah as well.
Get a grip goober. Stop pulling lies out of yer arse.
