Rachel noted on the show last night that several states are pushing the legal boundaries in new ways in efforts to eliminate abortion rights, perhaps most notably in Arkansas.
And helping lead the way in Arkansas is Republican state Sen. Jason Rapert. Who's he? This is.
For those of you who can't watch clips online, in this video, Rapert is seen telling a public crowd in 2011:
"I hear you loud and clear, Barack Obama. You don't represent the country that I grew up with. And your values is not going to save us. We're going to take this country back for the Lord. We're going to try to take this country back for conservatism. And we're not going to allow minorities to run roughshod over what you people believe in!"
The video first appeared at The Nation, published a day after Rapart's bill to ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy was approved by the Arkansas Senate.
It's certainly rare to hear anyone, especially elected officials, talk in public about stopping "minorities" in the 21st century, and yet, here we are.
When Republicans get together to ponder why their outreach to African Americans doesn't seem especially effective, I hope they'll take a moment to ponder policymakers like Jason Rapert.

Well Mr.Rapart failed along with the Conservativism in taking the country back for his Lord.I'm confused now did their Lord failed them in taking the country back ,as they say,or viceversa.Once they start flagging God and religion in political elections it is all bad.Now that they have found out they lost is that a possible sign of their Lord doesn't wants to give them back the country,or maybe he is totally incapable of such a power.Or all of the above? Humm!!
where do these people come from and who allows them to be part of the government?
unfortunately, they actually represent the bigoted, ignorant hateful base of the devil's deal that the republican party now is.
Same bs from people who say they are of faith. When will the morderite wing of the GOP stand up to the crazy of their party.
hmm, that went over welli am sure, for me it is not about race,it is ablout jobs,it is about our economy,it is about resourses.those are the things a surge of people being allowed to just surge into this country, with no checks, giving amnesty is like opening flood gates and saying come on in.illegals are illegal.
Patty Rivette, you must have missed this -- http://csii.usc.edu/economic_benefits.html -- and other studies showing that immigration reform will help, not hurt, our economy.
I distinctly heard "minorities" not "illegals"
Your girlfriends in Stepford miss you, Patty
Patty Riv-Troll-"ette",
Pretending to be low-schooled does not cut tho (sub for it)(my 5th grade teacher was a non-Latino, northern European woman who could not speak Engish properly yet she was teaching us!) She was allowed to just SURGE into this country legally b/c she was WHITE. Have no idea if she was whatever-legal (married to an American soldier from WWII) or illegal but know fo-sho she was an acceptable color--WHITE!
Who do you think picks your apples, strawberries, lettuce? Would that be you Patty Troll ???
I love when the ignorant like yourself show your true colors. As some one who lives in a city with a huge Hispanic population let me tell you who the entrepreneurs and true job creators and people working hard to create better lives for themselves and their families are. They are the Shop owners and small business employees and people who refuse to sit around the house waiting for America to pay them back for the privilege of being born white.
Spare us your prejudices and hatreds towards those you know deep in your heart are better than you will ever be.
Zebras can't change their stripes but a can of paint can do wonders.
That is republicans think in this day and age. The GOP really does believe they can get away with not being zebras. But we are on to them.
What can be said other than "stupid statement from stupid man." God is a God of love.
Perhaps if he could string two grammatically correct sentences together, someone with half a brain would listen to him. Then again...probably not!
he doesn't need people with half a brain. he has the bigoted, ignorant, hate-filled base.
I didn't know the Lord owned the United States or any other country. That's not in my Bible. Also this, this person must have not read that ALL people are made in God's image; not just white male bigoted, racist and intolerant people. This country may have been founded on Christian-Judeo ethics, but in the last few hundred years we have gone way beyond that. I do believe that people like this need to take a lot of classes to update what is actually happening in America and not just what they see w/ blinders on; and a closed brain.
Cant you just see this idiot behind a pulpit at a West (By God) Virginia snake handling religious fanatic church service! Leading the blind and ignorant into a frenzy of minority haters! I am a proud southern man but THANK GOD the South didst win the damn civil war! Lord have mercy!!!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but since Obama will have been President for two terms, doesn't that make this guy and those who disagree with the POTUS the minority?!
The best answer I could give you is to create a histogram. Learning how to divide you data is very important or defining your data is important. Extract from that.
It never ceases to amaze me that these guys don't realise that if the most worshiped man in the world, Jesus Christ himself was here in America, he would be a "minority"
Victoria Jackson, conservative:
Ann Coulter, Crazy peepin' witch:
Now, this a-hole:
With Republican calls for civil war and to say that guns are the line to cross, where are you extremists think you are going? What do you think you doing? You don't know do you? You ugliness, racism, hatred, intolerance, bigotry and ignorance run you lives. You drool at the chance to cause more civil unrest. The Republican Party is the problem. You have all gone so far right, there is no chance for you to recover as a party. Best now to divide/split into two parties: Conservatives and Fascists. You all divide up yourselves.
The lord don't want the United States for he has to deal with @!$%#s like you...When you go home ask your lord if he liked you putting words in his mouth...You no more speak for him and his teaching than you care what happens to every living creature God has put on this earth... You speak the words of Satan as you speak of hate and speak lowly of other people , your condemnation will come soon enough prepare!!!!
Nice pants.
Whaddaya expect. He's been listening to Mike Huckabee for so long it's warped his little mind.
I just posted this. Ha ha.

Okay, please let me know if I'm wrong here. To my understanding the Republicans think that the majority of women having abortions are minorities, but they also want to "take back" this country from the minorities. They want them to reproduce so they can take from them?
Where are the trolls? I guess they can't find a way to twist this one into a positive for the right.
The republican party is in desperation mode. They must know or need to know their power will continue to diminish if they continue with this stuff but sadly the tea party contingent has staked out a very anti-ethnicity ,anti-immigrate, anti-woman and anti-federal government positions. There are problems with with welfare and immigration but they have a very distorted view ( thank you FOX news) of these problems and they have no sense of proportion, like what part of the budget goes to pay for welfare. They are not going to be that effected by the things they get riled up about. By creating scapegoats and appealing to their feelings of powerlessness the republican leadership manages to get people to vote against their best interest.
What kills me is the hickish sounding WOO HOOs in the background. I lived in Memphis for a while and I can tell you that there are millions of these guys and they all sound just as ridiculously stupid as this racist moron does. Thankfully, there are some educated, erudite and equality-loving people in the deep south. They are all Democrats, of course. But some day we actually WILL overcome.
I agree with Rapert...sort of... Minorities, such as conservative white evangelical Christian Republicans, are trying to run all over our values, and I think they should be stopped!!!

The only response to a rant like that
I am so glad to see this brought out into the light. We are under siege. First Republican controlled legislature in years and they are taking advantage of it big time. I hope this video will be shown throughout the internet and all over the tv screen. I refuse to believe the women of Arkansas will sit back and let some idiot like this restrict our right to control our own bodies and lead our state down this road of ridicule from the rest of the country. Thank you Rachael for continuing to help us as we try to find a way to organize and fight this assault on our rights.
Anytime someone says they are doing something for 'God' be wary.
Take a close look at the TEA party banner flying in the wind as this blowhard steams up the bigoted crowd. Calling in the Religious Evangelical fringe segment shows the desperation of TEA-types when he calls for prayer. "Taking this country back for the Lord" is exactly what this radical extreme says. More than love, hate, food, water, sex, wealth or security it would seem that the strongest emotional need here is the overwhelming desire to find something to be offended by. And that one issue this crowd is against - President Barack Obama! How sad, pitiful and empty those lives must be, to hate a man just because of his skin color.
