[Adapted from the show transcript]
The Gold Rush is a variation on the Whiskey Sour that is made with honey.
Ingredients:
- ½ oz. honey syrup*
- ½ oz. lemon juice from actual non-plastic lemon
- 2 oz. bourbon
Shake it like you mean it.
Strain over ice.
*To make honey syrup, use two parts hot water, to one part honey, and stir it up til the honey dissolves in the water.

You intrigue me. Will honey syrup last for any length of time after prepared or does it separate back into water and honey.
It doesn't separate, but the reason honey doesn't spoil is that it is anhydrous. (no water) When you mix it with water, things can grow in it, including yeast and bacteria. I'd say, short term storage only.
Meh. I'm not the biggest fan of cocktails. Not after I drank far too many margaritas last weekend.
On a happier note, I'm currently fermenting a gallon of grape juice for home consumption :)
It soundzez to us as if you are offering the precious ! The precious cannot be shared amongstez the manyz the precious hasez only one Master ! Cu-cu-Gollem-gollem .....

Has anyone done this with Meyer Lemons? I've been experimenting with Meyer lemons in all things--this will be my first Rachel Maddow cocktail.
Dang it I don't have any syrup at home! I will get it and try the cocktail this weekend at home, <3 cocktails.
On another topic, if you ever read these comments Rachel :-), all of the other msnbc shows should be open to comments. PPl today don't want only one way communication but rooms where to share their views and discuss them. Like at Huffington post. I can swear Jon Stewart and Colbert is following me there btw, they steal my points and jokes!....except they present them much better :D
Have a great weekend. Loooove your show and all you have done for our media!
And The Benen. Don't forget the Steve Benen.
Nice Recipe On The Show, But Wouldn't A Glass Of Honey Jack Daniels As Opposed To 'Honey Badger Whiskey' Be Just As Good? http://0.tqn.com/d/create/1/0/-/C/A/-/1-SHOT-GLASS---BOTTLE.jpg
So, basically, a whiskey sour made with honey syrup rather than simple syrup and no cherry. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Proof (?) that Idahoans watch your show, and drink liquor
It has been mentioned before that there is a sizeable fan base here in Idaho – such as featuring some of the Idaho responses to the “blue dots, red states” blog post. It still seems hard to believe at times.
However, today I texted my husband the Gold Rush recipe, since I know he likes whiskey sours. He just stopped by the Liquor Store to get some bourbon and found four other people staring at the bourbon selection (seemingly unsure which kind to buy). My husband didn’t know which kind to get either but simply walked up and grabbed one from the top shelf – he claims this is where to the good stuff is…who knows.... When he looked back, everyone else grabbed the same kind! Now we’re just hoping it is actually good.
Does anyone have a recommendation for bourbon?
And second, I am on the last week of pregnancy with our second child and am looking forward to a cocktail after the baby is born. If you had to go nine months without liquor, what is the first cocktail that you would make?
Im really curious to see what people recommend!
Alcohol is a dangerous addictive drug. It fits the DEA's definition of a Schedule 1 drug. If you drink too much at one time death will result. It is a major cause of violence including domestic violence and violence at sporting events. If you become addicted the only drug harder to quit is nicotine. At that point major diseases set in including bleeding ulcers, colon cancer, peritonitis, cirrhosis of liver, shrinking of the brain and more.
It has no medical use.
It is highly addictive
It is easy to abuse.
Sure, alcohol has a medical value. It's value is in kicking back and having a good time. In so much that human beings need to socialize, it has a value.
Alcohol isn't highly addictive. I suppose it can be depending on one's genetics, but not for me. A good wine hang over is enough to keep me from going back to it the next day.
I haven't been bent over a toilet since I was in my early 20's, some 12 years ago now (dear lord, I'm getting old). When I drink, I drink until I've got a good drunk on, and I'm done.
And did I mention it has an incredible use in cooking? Add a little vodka to the tomato pasta sauce you're cooking and you've got something a little more awesome. :)
geez...lighten up, jerry...some of us can actually enjoy a cocktail every now and then...
it's been so long since the last moment i was beginning to think the wing-nuts brought back Prohibition
