Pretty much every day that state legislatures are in session, there is movement of some kind, somewhere in the country on legislation affecting women's health rights. We talk about what's going on every day here at TRMS world headquarters, but these stories don't always make it into the show. So we thought we'd experiment with listing the last 24 hours' worth of happenings here, Morning Maddow/Mini-Reports style.
*Remember that 6-week ban turned 12-week ban making its way through the Arkansas state legislature? It's being further delayed while more changes are considered.
*Also in Arkansas, Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe has signed into a law a bill to ban insurance exchanges created under Obamacare from covering abortion.
*In Virginia, Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell is working to make sure that the insurance exchanges created in that state are banned from covering abortion, but the Virginian-Pilot is reporting that even some Republicans are skeptical of the move.
*In Colorado, Democrats defeated in committee a Republican-backed bill that would have required doctors to investigate why a woman was seeking an abortion.
*A similar bill has been proposed in Kansas this year, too and is seen as likely to be passed by the Republican-controlled legislature and signed by Republican Gov. Sam Brownback.
*Lawmakers in Oklahoma are considering a bill that would tighten the state's existing parental notification law for girls under age 18 seeking abortion.
*In Arizona, a federal judge has overturned the state's effort to defund Planned Parenthood. The measure had already been blocked, pending this week's ruling.

Where in the Constitution does it say anything about women being slaves held in bondage by the males in this country?
I think it was amendment proposed by Leviticus when he was at the Continental Congress In Philadelphia
He wanted one banning shellfish too but was blocked by the Massachusetts Oyster lobby
There needs to be a truce on social issues. No more assailing the 2nd or 14th amendments.
The 14th has no wiggle room; the 2nd has interpretation issues from here to Doomsday. Basically, the 2nd has been taken completely away from its intent, or even its text; it either needs a reset or a replacement.
Which part of the text of the 14th specifically allows a first trimester abortion...I'll respect the supreme court decision you like if you respect the one I (also) like and heck ill even go along with an amendment to neutralize the one we both don't like(citizens united)
It allows the right to privacy, when combined with the 10th Amendment (since the right to invade someone's privacy without foundation is NOT a power granted to any state), and if what someone does with the cells of their own body isn't part of their privacy, than I guess it's time to put young men's masturbatory adventures on TV. If you're looking for specifics, where are the specifics on what constitutes arms? I'll guarantee that the Founders did NOT mean willy-nilly ownership of weapons that could fire 30 times in the space of a few seconds, and that whole "well regulated militia" part IS still part of the amendment, but seems to have been generally ignored as inconvenient to the gun-nuts. By the intent of the Founding Fathers, as is so readily claimed by originalists, you should be restricted to muzzleloading smoothbores. No Minie balls or rifling for you!
I'm not saying axe the damn thing completely; I like shooting too much for that. I'm saying that the loose wording and imprecise limits only benefit the dangerous, the crazy, and the criminal, to the detriment of the citizenry and society. It needs modernizing, and nothing tells us this more than our place in gun deaths worldwide. When a first-world country competes with a warzone in Africa for gun deaths, something is seriously out of whack.
I thought Hitler was dead...guess not. The Third Reich carries on!
On the 204th birthday of Charles Darwin one can only wonder if perhaps he would have an explanation why the Republicans unlike the rest of our society have not evolved.
Recessive genes
There is a theory that far in the past human ancestors and chimpanzee ancestors may have interbred for a time. I offer Republicans as evidence in favor of that theory.
(Progressives, on the other hand, must be part bonobo.)
Bob can stop any abortions by inserting an ultrasound wand, thus protecting god's little rape baby from the evil law!
So nice to know we have no doctor-patient confidentiality anymore thanks to teapubs. So much for smaller government.
Guess the Reich wants to give the reins back to Democrats,, works for me.
True but its not suppose to be that way...sad isn't it?
If American men had ovaries then everything in your society would stop for a pregnant man for long enough for them to decide just what they wanted to do and which of the manifold services for pregnancy help, termination, or counseling they would want to use.
Here in Aus at least the godsquad are not in charge of the hospitals.
TRMS , great idea , thanx
But remember guys, this supposed Republican War on Women is a myth drummed up by the liberal progressives.
The Republican "War on Women" is really just an effort to return to the good old days of pre-Roe v. Wade and all the nonsense about women being equal to men and deserving the same rights and all. It is an effort to return to an older, safer time.
The Democrat "War on Weapons" is very similar in ideological essence but is about changing something that has worked fine for the entire history of the US to make the faint of heart among feel "safer". Otherwise, both efforts have very similar elements of sensationalism and emotional BS.
The real difference is it is easier to scare folks with a gun (especially if they have never fired one or seen one outside of movies and TV) than an abortion. Guns scare, abortions outrage...both movements are ridiculous and profoundly un-American.
