President Obama will head to Capitol Hill very shortly to deliver his State of the Union address, and you can watch the whole thing right here. (Mobile users having trouble with the video embed might want to try this link.)
Maddow Blog will have plenty of coverage in the morning, but for now, consider this a SOTU Open Thread. What are your impressions? Any surprises? What worked? What didn't?
And with that, the floor is yours.
[Update: The live stream of the address has been replaced above with the video of the speech itself, in its entirety.]

For the love of all things holy... please, after the speech is over, can we have a discussion of it, and not go back to wall to wall speculation coverage of Dorner? PLEASE...
You ask "What worked? What didn't?"
What didn't work was MSNBC choosing to go ambulance-chasing in California the whole evening until just before the SOTU, and for all anyone knows, they'll go back to it right afterwards.
Nice quote from the art of War, Rachel. Thanks for sharing!
No Clarence, either. hmmm
Stephen Chu is manning the white house tonight as "Designated Survivor". So at least we'll have someone smart in charge if anything unfortunate happens tonight.
I don't see justice Scalia?
Apparently giving his own speech tonight.
Scalia makes a point of not attending State of the Union Addresses by Democratic Presidents.
Yes, he is just that special.
UGH! I'm a few minutes into the preshow with NBC and I almost can't stomach it. I know that Rachel is a fan of Andrea Mitchell's but just listening to her makes me nauseaus. And don't even get me started on Chuck Todd. They really don't give insight to anything. To me they just seem to parrot stale old talking points. Case in point, Todd just gave Ted Nugent credibility by saying that he was invited to the SOTU because he's a gun enthusiast. Really, Chuck? Honestly, I'd much rather hear Rachel, Chris and Ed's take on this. At least they sound honest and tell it like it is. Okay rant over, lol. Im going to HULU and watch the New York Times livestream or the WhiteHouse.gov livestream.
BTW MSNBC, you're viewership would much rather watch your pundits take on the SOTU than the Dorner show to infinity. Oh and while I'm at it...NO MORE PRISON SHOWS......hey, I thought since I was already ranting.....
Every time I post a comment the video resets... wtf??
Because the page refreshes.
Open the stream in a new window, and you should be able to post without resetting the video.
"No matter where you come from, or what you look like, or who you love..." That's our POTUS!
Pastel Tie Party, go!
Boehner looks ike he needs a drink.
Or he has already had a few.
The Sequester is "a really bad idea".
The GOP alternative is "even worse."
Then Mr. Boehner appears to swallow his tongue.
I feel like a GrumpyBoehner meme would be even more popular than the GrumpyCat meme. And you would only need photos from tonight ;)
Isn't 'GrumpyBoehner' redundant?
Touche.
The only one that is "Redundant" is President Nobama
As he says lets "pass A Budget"???
Something that Senate has NOT done in over 1400 days
I thought he was gonna start crying again...
Is it just me, or is it super-distracting to have Boehner and Biden in constant view behind the president? I mean, there's a certain entertainment value to watching their reactions, but really...
Well, if Mr. Boehner could manage to avoid looking as though he is sitting through his ex-wife's deposition at his divorce, it would be less distracting.
I love when he got to the point where he didn't even try to clap anymore. It happened somewhere around the first mention of "asking the wealthy to pay a little more."
For someone who is blasted for not being "American", everything I've heard so far is about America.
There's a lot of "we" in there, clearly echoing the "we the people" theme he's projecting.
and "Stars" Guiding stars North stars...and then he threw in the space race line...makes you wonder
This is getting hard to follow. Have to keep refreshing to see others' comments.
Open the video feed in another tab...
Science! We don't need no stinking science!!
Wow, McCain actually smiled. Thought he'd forgotten how.
McCain was positively tickled!
McCain was embarrassed that he once had a good idea, but can't remember what it was.
Boehner looks very pained, like he should have taken Beano before the speech.
Wow, if John Boehner starts to look any worse, he's going to need paramedics. The man looks like he's been force-fed a quart of castor oil.
Damn right!!
Q:"What are we waiting for?"
A: "You to leave office"
I know, right?
Some folks in the audience look downright uncomfortable.
I think Speaker Boehner is hammered.
I have the feeling that there are a lot of tongues being bitten in that room...by the time this is over all the tea party people will be spitting blood and their own broken teeth
no he always looks like that...either that or he is a functioning alcoholic...
Although that would explain the fake tan...
Our education system needs help..
the republicans want educations broken...it gives them an excuse for homeschooling...which is just a passive aggressive form of reverse segregation
Republicans don't like education because an uneducated populace is easier to control. The more ignorant someone is, the more easily he/she can be told what to think. Example: Fox news viewers.
true but they also like to keep us divided...if your kids go to school with kids of other races or classes they might find out they (God forbid) actually Like them!
I can't confirm it, but I think Boehner may have soiled himself at the suggestion of universal pre-school.
Which would indicate he would benefit from attending preschool...
Ahahaa. Yes. He could also use some solid pre-K training in enthusiastic hand-clapping.
Maybe they will get immigration reform done this session.
Everybody duck, he just mentioned women...
Dragoon21b So I take it your'e all in with Republicans waiting eight years for Obama to be out of office before they do one good thing for the American people.
You're a fu$$$ng genius.
Do I like it no do I want it not at all
Do I expect anything other than mindless puritanical obstructionism...
I am an optimist not a rube
That Sen Arubio voted against...
