Good morning to you! The Nation is strong, and recovering...all is not well, but we are getting better, slowly. Sen. Rubio stepped on it...what an opportunity just tossed aside. How can these light weight republicans ever represent the great republicans that still exist in the GOP? I am a GOP ex-patriot, and I do not see a path back...one of these days I will call myself a democrat, not because I have adopted them, but because I have been driven to them by my old party.
But I am old, and I guess it doesn't matter...NOT!
They made a bad bargain with the devil, Roy Fouts, and now the devil is collecting its due. Aside from money/finance issues, the GOP has been the party of the status quo and hyper-conventionality since Nixon (of "Silent Majority" fame, among other things.) That made the Repubs the natural choice for religious conservatives, who came to want their theology enacted into law because science, technology, and social change were loosening conventional religion's strangle hold on our civil life and values (creation narrative, the role of shame and guilt in relations between the sexes, etc.). This gave the GOP power in the south and west, helped Reagan and both Bushes get elected, and gave them the 2010 upheaval. It also infused the party's ethos with absolutism, sanctimony, and uncompromising righteousness, of which Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, and Ran Paul are the logical and natural extensions.
The country sees what sanctimony and uncompromising righteousness is doing to our government. Today, Reagan would have been primaried, and Eisenhower could have been a speech writer for President Obama. The sanctimonious crazies in the electorate have nowhere else to go, but if they leave the GOTP, it will shrivel up, and the party leaders don't seem to be willing to make that short and medium term sacrifice to get the Republican Party back on track again. The shriveling, however, may happen in spite of them.

Oh, hell, why not. The Olympics has been nothing more than a teevee show for the past few decades anyways. Apparently one of the potential replacements is in-line skating--all they need to do is draw in some wheels on the feet of those figures on the amphorae.
Yeah, this is pretty U-F-ing-Believable.
When I think ancient Greece and tradition I immediately think Curling!

"He shall from time to time give to Congress information of the State of the Union and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge ..."
(1)We need to change the language of our constitution. We are looking at the very real possibility that the President may not be "He."
(2) "from time to time" Nothing says the State of the Union should be an annual event. We could have another SOTU when other important bill is facing congress.
