I'm curious, is this "meteorite" really the asteroid that was predicted to pass by Earth today? If so why the change of terms? This really looks like a well-orchestrated CYA because our much vaunted science community got it wrong.
Or were we lied to for our own peace of mind? Does anyone have the real story here?

Sorry, I thought shooter was confused on the terms. I guess my own assumption that he is not so bright got the better of me,this time.
The meteorite is not connected to the asteroid [2012 DA14] scheduled to pass by us today. Meteors are pieces of asteroids or comet or other, they become meteoroids when they collide with earth's atmosphere, they become meteorites if they strike the earth itself, rather than just burning up.
It's largely semantics. Putting it simply, meteors are astroids that enter a planets atmosphere. I suppose that it's possible that this meteor broke of of the astroid you refer to, but the meteor is estimated to be significantly smaller that the astroid. Google is your friend.
Of course, that's only if you believe anyone about anything. If it weren't for those "Much vaunted scientists", you'd still be sitting in your mom's basement, but it would be dark and cold and there wouldn't be any internets. Make sure you have your gun handy. Everyone, including the scientists, are out to get you.

I am concerned about the nonstop campaiigning and litle work being done in DC by the President. He can just as easily make many of these arguments online using social media. We have the SEO market locked up as Dems...it is what got him elected in many ways. That said, this President needs to make JOBS and nothing else the prority. There are people starving and frankly, talking about guns all the time, raising taxes all the time and investments all the time are starting to scare even Dems. With jobs, linking wages to corporate profits and equal taxation for corporations, ALL THIS GOES AWAY! Nobody in office has the balls anymore...so they look busy getting very little done that the existing market isnt taking care of by itself over time. I think he doesnt talk about jobs because he knows just how screwed Americans really are and knows it would be meaningless to even talk about it...and be forced to admit that American corporations simply arent hiring American labor anymore unless it comes with enough of an incentive to cover the money used to employ us. This is a VERY BAD time in America's short and complex history. The reason Europe and Asia is going to kick our asses isnt because of them...its because of US! They have 2500 years of mistakes made that we are, in fact, just starting to realize ourselves. They corrected their crap...and are all either completely corrupt or socialist economies. Their people wont tolerate the @!$%# we do!!! THAT was the point of the 2nd Amendment Obama is going around talking about...it was implemented to ensure that when too many rich people are running the show, citizens could form a militia and overthrow the tyrannical powers. And believe me, Dems also see the tyranny. Difference is, we dont blame Obama - not yet, but he isnt that much different than what we have been trending towards for a half century. This means, the "board of directors" is the problem! THAT is what we should be keying in on, shining light on and changing social perceptions about! Only Congress passes the laws in this country. The President and his party put forth ideas and it is up to Congress to bring the legislation to the floor and vote. Boehner won't bring anything to a vote. That was the President's whole point in the SOTU in calling for a vote on gun control. If Obama or any president were to make the laws he would be seen as a dictator. That's why there are 3 branches of government. Congress is broken, the minority party in the Senate fillabusters every idea brought forward. The House of Reps is being overrun by the tea party lunatics. The Congress hasn't figured out that they might have the financial backing in politics, but the President has the people behind him in mass. After all the money poured into the elections by the super PAC's, they still didn't produce the results they wanted. Republicans can dig their heels in for 2 more years and they will no longer have the power in the House. People are sick of the bulls%^& . We want action!
