Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE) will not seek reelection in 2014.
The Colorado House passes a handful of gun-control bills.
North Dakota Senate passes a 'personhood' bill.
Arkansas Senate passes a ban on abortion after 20 weeks.
As the Alabama House debates an abortion bill today, one Rep. calls a baby "the largest organ in a body."
State funding cuts force closure of 4 Planned Parenthood clinics in Wisconsin.
Pres. Obama will call on Congress to avert the automatic spending cuts coming next week.
Mark Sanford addresses his "Appalachian Trail" baggage in his first campaign ad.

Mark Sanford is unstable. He does not deserve the support of the people of his state. On the other hand his instability seems to be a desirable characteristic in the election of members of congress these days...
Actually, it's " Appalachian Tail".
George Schultze and Bechtel, remeber all the stuff they did in Saudi Arabia? Trying to figure out Cheney, maybe he got ideas from Geaorge Schultz and doubled down on them witn a more combative personality too boot and there you have it? Maybe?
Alabama, Arkansas, North Dakota....not surprising.
Another epic fail for STEM education in the South. The skin is the largest organ in the body. Of course, since it isn't all nicely compact like, say, the liver, people forget that.
Integumentary, my dear Watsons:

Thank you for the great broadcast last night on the Iraqi war..I had a brother and 2 nephews who served as Marines and it infuriates me that they were put in harms way for such political lunacy..Keep reporting on this nutty crowd please.
I live in SC...although not for much longer (moving back to Mich)..I will say that Sanford will be elected !..they love him down here ! there is no end to their terrible politics here !!!
We need to start a campaign to sterilize men as a form of birth control, since the only other option appears to be to deny women any healthcare AT ALL just to avoid abortions. Since it takes two to make that baby, why don't we write into law that the man who impregnated her has to show up for the abortion and be sterilized at the same time! We need some more male consequences in the war on women!
He said "...and made gubment more accountable". lolz
The next time the south threatens to secede - let them.
Please, no, not all of us in the South are right-wing-nutjobs! Don't abandon us! We'll end up in concentration camps. NOT KIDDING!!
Rachel, could you call out our conservatives for taking what is, historically, a radical position? Here in Colorado, the strange thing about listening to the debate about concealed weapons on campus is that legislators and some CU Regents don't seem to understand how radical their position is. Keeping guns off campuses is a *conservative* position consistent with the Constitution. The bills being fought by so called conservatives is, itself, conservative: it returns us to a long tradition on CU campuses. Starting concealed carry (last year) was a radical departure from that tradition. Also, according to Justice Scalia (District of Columbia v. Heller, 2008) the regulation of firearms is constitutional and Scalia gave banning guns in schools and government buildings as an example.
Some SOURCES: This is from the Daily Camera: "The CU Board of Regents banned weapons in 1970 and, in 1994, strengthened the policy requiring that students be expelled and employees be fired if found guilty of using a weapon to "intimidate, harass, injure or otherwise interfere with the learning and working environment of the university."http://www.dailycamera.com/cu-news/ci_21547722/claire-levy-d-boulder-plans-bill-that-would
This is from the NY Times: "The suit was initially dismissed, but the state appeals court overturned the dismissal. After the university appealed, Colorado’s Supreme Court held that the school’s gun ban, in place for more than 40 years, violated a 2003 state law allowing concealed firearms."http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/23/education/guns-on-campus-at-university-of-colorado-causes-unease.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
Among other gun control measures being proposed at the local level, Washington state is proposing a gun control measure that would allow local police to inspect the homes of gun owners whenever they like and completely unannounced, and without a warrant. It seems the Democrats in Washington State have never read the 2nd amendment or the 4th amendment either.
