Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* The congressional special election in South Carolina's 1st district took a confrontational turn yesterday when Teddy Turner (R) launched a harsh new ad mocking former Gov. Mark Sanford (R).
* Progress KY, a largely unknown liberal super PAC, launched a racially-charged attack against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and his wife yesterday, leading to condemnations from leading Democrats, including Ashley Judd. The group apologized several hours later.
* In Wisconsin, former Sen. Russ Feingold (D) has seen his stature rise quite a bit in the wake of his 2010 defeat. In a hypothetical race against Gov. Scott Walker (R), Feingold leads by two, 49% to 47%, in the latest Public Policy Polling survey. In a 2016 rematch against Sen. Ron Johnson (R), Feingold is up by 10, 52% to 42%.
* In Kansas, Gov. Sam Brownback (R) appears to be struggling with his constituents, with a new PPP poll showing the governor with an approval rating of just 37%.
* In Georgia, there's likely to be a crowded Republican primary in the open U.S. Senate race, but a new statewide poll shows there's no real favorite -- no GOP candidate cracks 20% support.
* It may seem hard to even imagine, but the chairman of the Tea Party of Florida is talking publicly about recruiting a "dependable" conservative to challenge Gov. Rick Scott (R) in 2014.
* DCCC chair Steve Israel says Democrats fully expect to run on gun control and the minimum wage in the midterm cycle.
* And in South Carolina, a new super PAC called the "West Main Street Values Fund" now exists, apparently to help re-elect Sen. Lindsey Graham (R).

[* It may seem hard to even imagine, but the chairman of the Tea Party of Florida is talking publicly about recruiting a "dependable" conservative to challenge Gov. Rick Scott (R) in 2014.]
It's very easy to imagine. Even though his cave on Obamacare was because he's an old insurance fraud looking for another take, he still caved. *AND* he tried to justify his cave with appeals to compassion and common sense. The teabaggers are not going to forgive him for that.
The definition of "conservative" is "opposed to whatever liberals favor, updated daily." Anyone who ever goes along with Democrats on anything, no matter how conservative on everything else, isn't a "real" conservative.
In Kansas, Gov. Sam Brownback (R) appears to be struggling with his constituents, with a new PPP poll showing the governor with an approval rating of just 37%, which happens to be exactly the percentage of Kansans who are wacked out religious reich idiots!
Unfortunately there aren't any Democrats in Kansas who have a better rating. Kansas is almost as repub as Utah, so even a bag of hammers like Brownback will win.
I've got relatives in Wichita who sort of keep me posted about Brownback. Even though they are republican, they have absolutely no use for the man.

What is not to mock about Mark 'hiking the Argentine branch of the Appalachian Trail' Sanford?
However, we should expect to hear rebuttal soon about Teddy 'Daddy was married to Hanoi Jane Fonda' Turner.
Pass the popcorn! War between corporately owned repuke cretins is always entertaining.
In other election news, with all votes counted and certified - Barack Obama defeated Mitt Romney by approximately 4.95 million votes, not "three million votes". Which is apparently news to NBC news.
Maybe so, but my repuknican friends still insist that Obama stole the election via Ohio!
I'd just like to see NBC News live up to the idea that "every vote counts".
(I imagine Rachel is constrained by the numbers when NBC news decided to stop paying attention as California, New York and New Jersey kept coming in, but surely this is something that could be looked into?)
Teapubs should take a hint from dems when they see dems condemning an over the line ad from anyone. Oh, scuze me. I forgot teapubs refused common sense because they thought it meant pennies.
In Kansas, Gov. Sam Brownback (R) appears to be struggling with his constituents, with a new PPP poll showing the governor with an approval rating of just 37%.
Sometimes the best way to get people to stop voting Republican is to put one in office. It sure worked in California with Ahhhhnuld.
These so-called awards for people doing courageous things are nice, but in a sense is still disappointing. Like for example the award for Rosa Parks was nice, but the real truth of it all was all the people involved who were fed up with not having their freedoms, rights, and equality coming together to make a change. Otherwise, if these people did not come together nothing would have happened. At times, when we do these awards we really lack imagination in encouraging people to want to do the rights things. Now instead of having just one award for just a single, why don’t you consider an award for the Unknown Hero’s that came together for a change for people’s freedoms, rights, and equality. Make a statute of men, women, and children of different skin colors and no faces to identify any particular person coming together for people’s freedoms, rights, and equality. After all it is people coming together as a community that make changes really happen. For once use your imagination that really does bring people together and make encouragement’s where people do want to do the right things for someone else. Because glamorizing a single person may be nice, but in the end just becomes a fragment of history that becomes forgotten. In addition, you could make a holiday of the Unknown Hero’s so it is always remembered.
During today's SCOTUS hearing on the Voting Rights Act, Justice Scalia referred to section 5 as
It took 82 years for Black men to gain the right to vote; 132 for women, and 183 for Americans 18-21. Only one group has always been able to vote. I wonder if Scalia would call that a racial, gender-based entitlement?!?
I can't be the only person tired of hearing the Right misuse the word "values", when by my world view they actually have none.
DCCC chair Steve Israel says Democrats fully expect to run on gun control and the minimum wage in the midterm cycle.
Imagine that !
Running on a platform that might turn out their actual constituents.
Sandford please go away.
I don't understand what was racist in the liberal tweet about Elaine Chao. If she hadn't been a member of the bush administration then yes! it would have been racist. But she had plenty to do with jobs during bush's term.
