The Republican alternative to sequester cuts.
The House votes on VAWA today.
The White House says it was career immigration officials who decided to release undocumented immigrants from detention ahead of the sequester cuts.
Doctors in Kansas can still ask patients about their guns.
Prop 8 challengers Boies and Olson get a book deal.
Sen. Marco Rubio does not want to arm the Syrian opposition--he just wants us to give them ammunition.
What we will give the Syrian rebels is more financial help.

While reading about the sequester in my local news this morning, my rep is quoted as calling for congress to stay in session until it is resolved. Which made me wonder if he meant 24 hours a day or over the weekend. Which made me wonder about the implementation of the sequester. I realize it "kicks in" March 1st, but no real action will likely take place until the following Monday.
Is it actually possible that they (congress/POTUS) will delay until monday to do anything?
I guess if they let the cuts go into effect and then "fix them" they can claim they "saved the country/their districts"?
Also on this subject: The house republican have submitted a bill to delay the ACA to "solve" the sequester. LINK
Quite frankly, I am so disgusted with the money grubbing political machine. I am glad that I have already retired....I feel bad for my children and grandchildren that they have to deal with this disfunctional government.
The current lawmakers behave like a reality show gone bad.
Marco Rubio actually makes sense, perhaps more sense than he intended to make.
Obviously, we don't want to arm the rebels if those armaments are likely to fall into the hands of Islamic extremists after the revolution is over, or even while the revolution is being fought. Need I do more than mention the late Osama bin Ladin, who we armed to drive the Soviets out of Afghanistan?
Rubio also has a subtler point. Ammunition, things like bullets that pierce body armor, bullets that go into standard military weapons (i.e., assault rifles), and high capacity magazines, can turn the tide in a brutal, all-out war. They thus have no place in a peaceful society, not even in a putatively peaceful society. I suspect he didn't realize what he was saying, as that would have been the chewing gum aspect of the walk he's trying to perform.
People who are trying to please everyone because they have an eye on the brass ring of a presidential nomination - such as Rubio and Rand and half a dozen others - seldom realize how tangled up they can become in their videotaped record of promises, positions, policies and other such blather over the course of the next 3 years. It happened to McCain; it happened to Romney - and while one could understand their bewilderment as members of elder generations - Rubio and Rand have no excuses! Anything anyone says now is going to be recorded and remembered so when he/she takes exactly the opposite position in the 2016 primaries - it's going to come back around to bite him/her right in the butt.
I'm reading about Justice Scalia...and still can't get over that he said renewing the Voting Rights Act was unnecessary and would "perpetuate racial entitlement." It's hard to stomach that someone with his warped views sits on the nation's highest bench. Not that everybody should be a flaming liberal...but to know enough and to have enough humility to keep your mouth shut instead of saying something stupid and tantamount to being "Un-American."
The Republicans have failed miserably to do their job in the House (which the Constitution requires to produce all budgetary legislation) and now are trying to foist it off on the Executive branch of the government. The purpose of this is to claim no responsibility for the mess they have been creating for more than 2 years.
Rubio is, indeed, becoming tangles in his own political rhetoric and is about to find himself having to vote against immigration reform if he is to maintain the party line. He is also becoming more likely to become a target of one of those guns he wants so badly to protect. He is not yet intellectually mature enough for the positions he is trying to reach and he most definitely is not presidential material. He does not yet know who he is and is too amenable to allowing himself be defined by whoever pays him the most money at this time.
The Republicans publicly claim to be waiting for the President to come to them while privately, they have rebuffed every attempt by the President and the Senate to reach them on compromise. Any offer that does not make the poor even poorer causes the House to immediately turn off their hearing and go home. It is surreal how the House only actually shows up for work 30% of the time that they are supposed to be in session. And they actually believe that no one is noticing.
The only thing that will begin to fix the deficit is JOBS, a subject which the House has avoided at every turn since 2010 solely for the purpose of making Obama look bad. A personal vendetta against him shows just how bigoted most of our politicians still are and how badly the country is being damaged by that bigotry.
America is in a sorry state and it is because we no longer elect statesmen to represent us, but instead have opted to try out the extremists, greedy corporate businessmen, slick crooked lawyers, and way to many OLD WHITE MEN!
I am Southern, white, retired after too many years of hard work in the medical field, and a believer in the Beatitudes and the ten commandments. A pity that I am a member of such a small minority that believes in the constitution as a foundation for the equality and protection of ALL Americans.
The Lunacy evident in this whole diatribe speaks to the befuddled mentality and willful ignorance of Hussein Obama's policies and the results of those policies. You have the unmitigated nerve to speak of the duty of Republican Budgetary legislation...when this administration has not produced a budget in 4+ years...You speak of Rubio and immigration...when Hussein has broken American immigration law by the backdoor amnesty he has granted. And while in the midst of a recession Hussein wants to dump 11-25 MILLION more illegals into the work force while American citizens have been unemployed for 2 years and longer? And on the sequestration ... Hussein JUST raised taxes and NOW wants to dip his beak AGAIN after JUST getting a tax increase??? WHAT are YOU smoking? And instead of making budgetary cuts after sequestration that would not have much effect on the big programs...Hussein wants to cut positions immediately that will inconvenience the Public to make a point...THAT is NOT called "Compromise". And this administration dealing with the deficit? HA! This Administration has spent in 4years more than ALL.....ALL of the administrations that came before it...GOT IT? And does Hussein care about jobs? He has killed THOUSANDS of good coal mining jobs in West Virginia, Stopped THOUSANDS of jobs that would result from the Keystone pipeline and has TRIPLED the price of Gasoline which has hurt everyone from the poorest Americans to American business with his "Energy policy". There is NO "bigotry"...There are more Americans unemployed now than when Hussein took office because of his tax and spend anti-business and anti-American policies...nothing more, and to point at somebody else for this blatant failures shortcomings is to ignore the guy's policies which have put U.S. where we are today.

You're a windbag of illogical nutty untrue Conservative talking points. As I have better things to read on this blog I am putting you on Ignore.
Bye
I am reading a post by Bruce Springsteen, in which he tells (whomever) about one of the problems with education. That's nice, Bruce. You went to school, therefore you must know a lot about teaching. It's akin to my saying that I watch your show and therefore I could do your show as well as you. Like Ed's mother, my wife has been teaching public school, fifth grade for 21 years and I have been with her for 20 of them. Bruce's remarks are offensive to my wife and Ed's mom and educators everywhere.
