Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* In a curious twist, the Republican establishment, which disagrees with Sen. Rand Paul's (R-Ky.) views on civil liberties and national security, has begun raising money off of Paul's 13-hour filibuster on the subject.
* In South Carolina, Elizabeth Colbert Busch is the first Democrat to go on the air in the upcoming congressional special election in the state's 1st congressional district. The spot does not mention her party affiliation.
* In Michigan, latest survey from Public Policy Polling shows Gov. Rick Snyder (R) struggling badly with a 37% approval rating. What's more, Snyder trailed Democrats in hypothetical match-ups, with Rep. Gary Peters (D) leading the incumbent by seven, 44% to 37%.
* Jim Messina, President Obama's former campaign manager and now the head of Organizing for Action, announced this morning that the group will not accept corporate donations, and vowed to be "open and transparent" about the group's fundraising.
* In Massachusetts, a new UMass Lowell-Boston Herald poll shows Rep. Ed Markey leading Rep. Stephen Lynch in their Democratic Senate primary by a large margin, 50% to 21%. The same poll showed Markey and Lynch leading the Republican field in hypothetical general election match-ups.
* And Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has released the names of House Dems included in the party's Frontline program, designed to protect their most vulnerable incumbents. It features 26 incumbents.

I'm curious why no court has yet taken a look at this emergency manager law. Isn't it blatantly unconstitutional?
Heard about the woman on the news that killed her boyfriend and they are saying that she was jealous of him dating someone else. And on the other hand, she says she was defending herself. That actually would be interesting to find out what the real situation was there. Since I have seen in reality where certain men can be very manipulating, because they are so insecure and paranoid of things around them. Men question on what they should be, but really in many ways they give themselves a raw deal when they think they have to be what they call man it up. I’ve seen where a man who was really just so manipulating, insecure, and paranoid of women and accused women at fault for all these things, but it was really from the things he was directly doing himself. He would run around, lie, cheat, and accuse women for the very things he was doing. Initially, he was very nice to a woman to catch her attention than he would start in with his games and manipulation, which was totally just messing with a woman’s mind. Until to what he thought he had her under his total control than would tell her to effectively get lost or say he was going to do what he wanted to, because it was her doing all these things to him. And on top of it, this man actually enjoyed what he did to women and in reality just became more abusive, lying, accusing and manipulating to women. There was one woman he had so worked up that she chased after him with a running chainsaw as he ran around laughing about it. And another woman who went after him with a knife and his comment about that later was she was just jealous of me, because I wanted to break up with her. And in addition, he proceeded to proclaim how all these women just really wanted him and couldn’t stand it that he was dumping her. And the other women he dated he was just as abusive, lying, cheating, accusing, and manipulating to them. So just maybe a much closer look needs to be taken from this situation and maybe we can learn something from it. Because if men think they need to man up, they had better know what they are talking about when comes to saying what a man should be and manning it up.

Republican senator too lazy to use Google finally gets his answer
NBC's Chuck Todd reports what one Republican senator told him after attending last night's dinner with President Barack Obama:
That list is here. Senators didn't need "leadership" to share it with them. They could have gotten it within ten seconds on Google. All it would have taken was a willingness to pay a little attention to the world outside the conservative bubble.
I know these guys are Republicans, but I guarantee you that each senator at that dinner last night has progressive constituents who were outraged when they saw some of the cuts President Obama proposed for a Grand Bargain. If their constituents were capable of figuring out what the president had proposed, the senators should have been too. But instead of doing something crazy like, you know, actually having a rational and factual basis for their political positions, these guys apparently just jam their fingers in their ears and chant "I'm against it".
And I'm not just picking on one anonymous senator, either. Last week, Ezra Klein reportedthat a high-ranking House Republican was completely unaware that Obama's Grand Bargain proposal includes a reduction in Social Security spending via Chained CPI. Then, a few days later, a top GOP consultant made the same mistake, in hilarious fashion.
Within official Washington, last night's dinner was a received as a positive sign that the nation's capitol can actually get something accomplished. But with stories like this, what it really revealed is that D.C. is even more dysfunctional than we ever imagined possible.
O'Reilly needs to apologize to Combles for his tantrum over specific cuts Obama has proposed.
Gov. Snyder doesn't need good polling when he can disenfranchise half of his oppositions voters...
Then again all he needs is one good state "Emergency" to declare himself "Manager"
Can anyone tell me the name of the Mayor of Detroit?
I had to search, but he is a former NBA player and steel supply company in Detroit, Dave Bing.

Thanks, Sandy. I appreciate the info.
Maybe next time Rand Paul filabusters he should see if he could squeeze a pair of "Depends" out of the sequester.
Jim Messina, President Obama's former campaign manager and now the head of Organizing for Action, announced this morning that the group will not accept corporate donations, and vowed to be "open and transparent" about the group's fundraising.
How about being "open and transparent" on actually doing something??? Besides breathing other people's air, taking up other people's space, and taking other people's pay by your non-actions? OFA as you have organized it so far comes across as a joke, and a bad joke at that, since you people are supposed to be these organizational geniuses who win elections.
Colbert-Busch is the only Democrat you will see advertising, because she's the only true Dem running. Ben Frasier is a ridiculous perpetual candidate who's about as liberal as Alan Keyes and rarely even has any money to back up his campaign. He's rumored to be a plant by the GOP to force Dems to waste time and money in primaries. Then again, he did get nominated in 2010, so I'll make sure to vote in this primary.
As much as I despise money buying elections, I gotta say- fight fire with fire until the practice dies from public banishment.
Stephen Colbert PAC to fund his sister- awesome!
sandy
Stephen Colbert disbanded his Super Pac and gave the money to some well deserving charities and non-profits

However he is a draw and is doing fundraisers for her. Like a good little brother should!
I really liked it when he introduced his siter was running for Congress with this advice to anyone who may debate her:
Colbert offered some advice to Republicans who might end up in a debate with his sister. “This is how I used to win a lot of arguments with her when I was a kid,” he said. “Right after she makes a good point, repeat it back to her in a dumb voice.”
Now there's the naughty little brother.
Oh, I hadn't heard about that. Oopsie, my bad and good for Stephen.
He is quite a rascal. My sister in law (who works hard for Democratic Party) said he was worried that people wouldn't understand Colbert's parody schtick.
Rick Snyder doesn't care about his approval rating...making him very dangerous indeed.
morninMI,
I've been trying to find out the name of the Mayor of Detroit. Do you know his name? I am not savvy enough to find it on the computer, apparently.
