This old clip from David Letterman was kicking around in my Facebook feed today. On the surface, it's just Bailey the beagle playing dead and returning to life on command. Writ larger, it's a political metaphor for something. Exactly what is up to you. Hit the comments, please.

State Department, pretend you didn't make a BIG mistake. Good, boy!
....
Another example of this administration have a wrong view of the world and many in the Middle East. Their culture is not a friend to America, most are not interested in promoting a democracy, and most have very, very hateful and intolerant views...something the Left general say they will NOT support...yet, come on over and get this reward!
The avarice of the 1%.
It would be a more compelling if a vampire squid** took the place of the beagle, but Letterman would probably not have thought it was too funny. They seemed to play dead after the meltdown, but even during it, they broke pose way prematurely, looking too quickly for their treats.
Aren't they just adorable?

** reference to Matt Taibbi's description of "a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money"
Harry Reid someone just said filibuster reform to you.
Special merit for political humor, @Saminchcgo.
The GOTP presidential field in 2012....
This is all very conducing. Ha.
"All Republicans in favor of doing their jobs?" Thought so.
Reminds me of our senator (NH), Kelly Ayotte -- she appears to be dead til Lindsey Graham and a camera show up, comes to life while they're rolling, and then goes limp again when the Kliegs go off.

My guess would be that it is a metaphor for the GOP pretending they can't reach a consensus on budget cuts and/or new revenues, thus "proving" that government doesn't work.
I can see that.
The Republican House when there is work to do?
Adjourn = Playing Dead
Rand Paul's dog has a strategy for avoiding domestic drone strikes.
Clearly, Bailey is the feminist movement springing back to life in the era of binders full of women. Her actions are not purely reactive; she has been lying in wait for the perfect chance to shut this whole thing down. This interpretive dance says, "Tread lightly when waging a W.O.W. Payback is, quite literally, a bitch."
I think Bailey reminds me of the Democratic party when the GOP has control of the Senate or presidency. The Democrats will work with the GOP when they are in power but the GOP stops all work in Washington. The GOP is like a union but they don't like unions or strikes. They have been on a five year strike but this time it might be the end of the party as we have known it. Good by fellows been nice knowing you (nice is not the correct word).
Arriverderchi!!!
