Jed Lewison catches House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) delivering a line today he probably wishes he could take back.
For those who can't watch clips online, Ryan said, in reference to his plans for health care:
"This to us is something that we're not going to give up on, because we're not going to give up on destroying the health care system for the American people."
Coming soon to a campaign ad near you.
Incidentally, if you saw any of Ryan's remarks, you might have noticed that, immediately behind the congressman, there were two women from the House GOP caucus. That wouldn't be especially noteworthy, except there were a total of 16 House Republicans, including Ryan, standing in front of reporters in the House Radio & TV Gallery to introduce the budget plan -- 14 of them were white guys.
As Kaili Joy Gray noted, by some remarkable coincidence, the two women on hand for the event just happened to be standing immediately to Ryan's left and right, positioned perfectly for the cameras.

It's not a bug, it's a feature.
i work for a software company where I lose count of the times I hear that in a day.
i am not surprised that this fast talking psychotic delusionally paranoid imbecile said something stupid. but now his so-called brain forced out the truth?
PAUL RYAN IS A PIECE OF SHEET. UNAMERICAN. SHOULD BE X-COMMUNICATED. AND DE-PATRIATED.
Now that's some funny stuff right there...or at least it would be if the stakes weren't so high for the American people.
So much for the meme that Republicans are capable of learning from their defeat in 3 of the last 4 elections.
Did anybody bother to listen to the context, or are you all too busy falling over yourselves condemning him. He meant exactly what he said! This was no slip. Someone is trying to deceive or is just to stupid to know what he was saying!
So enlighten us. What was he trying to say? Because it sure sounds to me as if he said they are not giving up on destroying our healthcare system.
"or is just to stupid to know ....'
"to" from "too" from "two". And who knows what YOU'RE (not your or yore) saying?
Ryan's heroine, Ayn Rand would be so proud. Not to mention that she died while living off public assistance and receiving Medicare because she smoked herself to death. And Ryan himself used publicly financed student loans to get through school just in time to cut the same programs for everyone else.
Translation: "The GOP is hell bent on screwing the rest of the country so that we can provide corporate welfare to our wealthiest contributors and benefactors. We're not stupid. We honor a bribe when we receive one."
He went to school off his fathe's Social Security after he passed away and Ayn Rand Ryan saved up for college, must have had a really rough life if he was able to save that SS for college Hum!
What AlbertCat is trying to say is, "I can't actually argue your point, so let me decimate your grammar and typos... I'm just not clever enough to figure out what you meant."
Says a troll who had nothing in the comment to start with -- it's plainly OBVIOUS that Ryan 'misspoke' the TRUTH, because THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THE GOPigs ARE TRYING TO DO!
HINT: Communication is the process of taking the ideas in one mind and clearly, through spoken word, gestures, or graphics, transferring those ideas to another mind. If done CORRECTLY, no one HAS to "figure out what you meant". If done for the purpose of confusion, or because (as in this case) the IDEAS ARE GARBAGE, then miscommunication happens, and someone else "doesn't get it". The PROBLEM is, they DO get it, and have laid open the miscommunication for the trifle that it is. So grow up, troll.
Every once is a while, Republicans slip up and say the truth about what they want to do.
Exactly. Like the time Obama talked about his Muslim faith until George Stephanopoulos had to correct him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMUgNg7aD8M
But the left doesn't understand slip ups do they. We know he's Christian. He made a human mistake.
Repugs, there's your superstar. If it were me, I'd send him back to the gym.
Ronnie,
Obama clarified by "my Muslim faith" he meant "McCain doesn't pretend I'm Muslim like so many of the other Republicans." It's only an 18 second clip; you'd think you'd have the attention span necessary to listen to the very end. I can only imagine how many versions of Happy Birthday you botched by forgetting whose birthday you were celebrating.
And obama did not turn around and start attending Islamic mosques , while Ryan would destroy health care reform today , but but false equivalency rules the conservative party
That wasn't a slip. Obama meant McCain hadn't talked about his Muslim faith because he isn't a Muslim and McCain knew that. Lyin Ryan really is trying to destroy medicare and medicaid whether he wan't to admit it this publicly or not.
Actually Ronnie, that is incorrect.
The President was juxtaposing from McCain's perspective. He was dealing directly with the subject of his 'supposed Muslim faith' being mentioned by others. When he said "My Muslim Faith", it wasn't a slip at all. The only slip was when he allowed Stephanopoulos to 'correct' him, but then failed to explain clearly enough what he meant when he said it. He realized it would be to complicated to cover quickly, so he just pressed on.
Paul Ryan, otoh, really DOES want to destroy health care for poor Americans. He really is a social Darwinist. His 'slip', if it was one indeed, reflects his true intentions.
While Paul Ryan is generally a total mess, I hate when videos like this are cut off so abruptly, leaves the impression that the "gotcha" only works in very edited isolation.
Really, Ronnie @2.1?
Got nothing to say, so you change the subject? Who am I kidding...that was a description of the apologist's m.o. in the form of a question.
You see, Buck...I don't hate or fear people of other faiths, therefore any reference in the vein you have made falls on deaf ears. That may have some sway at a Klan meeting, but everyone knew what Obama was trying to say in context, and it was quite clear if you listen without your finger in your nose.
That doesn't change the fact that your immediate reaction was the "tu-quoque" fallacy, and an immediate assumption that people who dispise Ryan and the current Republican Party are automatically "Obama supporters."
Ryan is scum, his "budgets" are dispicable jokes that do not reflect what is good, decent, or Christ-like for this country, and this was an example of a slip of the tongue where his mouth ran without a filter.
(For the record, and despite my contempt for Ryan, I am looking for some additional context to make certain that he wasn't invoking some sarcasm, or if this is actually as it appears.)
The faster that people like Ryan, Bachmann, the teabaggers, Palin, McConnell, Boehner, and their patently-stupid followers are eradicated from the Republican Party, the sooner we can get back to the business of running the country. I am damn tired of mentioning that I have republican leanings and having someone look at me like I need therapy. You people are ruining the Party and will keep the Republican Party from being a serious contender on the national stage for the forseeable future.
"Obama did 'xxxxx'" my ass. Go back to the kiddie table if all you have is "he did it first."
Follow up: another poster added this link to a transcript of his full statements:
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/03/12/rep-paul-ryan-republicans-wont-give-up-on-destroying-the-health-care-system/
My response:
I must say, Danielofmo @16.4, that the entire statement does him no favors. In fact, I would venture that it makes it worse.
He says he won't go back on the tax increases, because (paraphrasing) 'what's law is law.' Yet, ObamaCare is the LAW that has already been all the way to the Supreme Court, and he is attacking it, trying to tear it down, trying to dismantle it. He made two mutually exclusive, diametrically-opposed statements within a few seconds of each other.
It sounds more like they poll-tested some concepts and found what appeals more to their base, or what they can keep bull@!$%#ting about and their base keeps buying. ObamaCare can still be misrepresented so they can get some mileage out of it, whereas the taxes of the typical poll answerer didn't go up recently.
-End quote.
Ryan seems to have meant what he said despite apologist "clarifications" to the contrary. He really wants to destroy ObamaCare, a law that has put healthcare within reach of more people. The video clip accurately displays Ryan's intent and desire.
Now I really hate that sorry SOB.
Rock on, Dude!
Paul Ryan is a Christian. We know that because of the way he selflessly taught his children how to pretend to clean up an empty soup kitchen.
Yep.... wait for it.... "47%"
If you listen and pay attention the GOTP always tell you what their real aim is - destroying working America for the benefit of the Plutocracy.
As for the "women" every set has it's "props" positioned well, don't they?
GOTP = Guaranteeing Obstruction Totally for Plutocracy!
IOKIYAR
Bob McDonnell does this lame trick, too. One black man, one woman, one Hispanic, one Asian, one Soldier... all standing around one idiot who wasn't fooling anyone with eyes.
little booby, err bobby... just wansta be an impotent guy who can look good for god and resurrect the inquisition and make everything all righteous and purrfect for the coming man-infestation.
Just keep repeating and you can hear Ayn Rand quitely murmuring looters, takers.
Rhubarb...rhubarb...rhubarb...
(for those that don't know, it's background "noise" during a Monty Python skit, IIRC)
We know Ryan... those of us who would not be able to buy health insurance know all too well...
pauli boi only looks evil and talks evil because he is evil...
I absolutely love it!!! I hope it goes viral!
Hopefully during election cycles.
we will keep it viral.... it will be resurrected in 2014 for sure, loud and clear. ie.... WHY DO REPUBERS HATE AMERICANS??? [play ryans rant].... ANSWER... DOES IT MATTER?
This might be the first, last, and only truthful public statement Ryan's made in the past couple years. I'm impressed; I was under the impression he didn't know how to tell the truth or was physically/mentally incapable of doing so!
the jerk said he loves his wife.... HE LIED. he likes the parties his pimps give him for his effort and he cannot wait to have affairs beyond his marriage IMHO. he says he is a catholic - but that is just his front to get in your door.
the church should excommunicate this pos.
ryan was tossed from his Easter service...at communion service..family got to stay while he waited in the car...his comments afterward...priceless

The trouble with satire directed at Conservatives these days is that it sounds all too plausible.
That's the only actual 'straight talk' I've heard from the GOP in a while.
Now why am I not supprised that the republicans don't want Americans to have health care.
Let me get that a little closer to the ENTIRE truth:
"This to us is something that we're not going to give up on, because we're not going to give up on destroying the health care system AND POLITICAL ECONOMY for the American people."
Goddamn. If Democrats can't make hay with this, we're completely lost.
I don't think this is an unfortunate "slip" I think he spoke the truth as he and his ilk believe it and want it.
Ya don't speak it in public, only in restaurants surrounded by supportive allies. (someone check the greenery first).
For a slip-up like telling the truth, The Establishment might relegate Golden Boy to a status two notches beneath Chris Christie.
That's where he should be anyway. Loser!!
He's just like Romney. The more they talk, the more you really know how they think. Romney made all kinds of blooper blips like this throughout his campaign -- not just "the 47%."
“If asking a billionaire to pay the same tax rate as a Jew — as a janitor — makes me a warrior for the working class, I wear that as a badge of honor.”
Barack Obama.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Sen. Barack Obama’s foes seized Sunday upon a brief slip of the tongue, when the Democratic presidential nominee was outlining his Christianity but accidentally said, “my Muslim faith.”
And so on and so forth.
Yes, but there's a very distinct difference.
As a Jew, the President's slip of the tongue does not bother me at all -- on the other hand, Ryan was just speaking his truth.
Really, "Really"?
There's a difference between a "gaffe" and a Freudian slip. Google it.
He's planning for 2016.
To quote Ayn Rand "Neither power lust nor stupidity are good motives."
"...we're not going to give up on destroying the health care system for the American people." lol
paul ryan... impulsive compulsive convulsive repulsive REPOOPLICON.
While I hate Paul Ryan. I find the abrupt end of the video right as he says that line to be alarming and potentially misleading. While I can't think of how he could have continued that phrase without making it obvious he misspoke but I don't like videos like this where there's doubt left in my mind on whether there was more to be said but whoever edited the video made sure we didn't hear it. FoxNews does it. Doesn't mean MSNBC can't be guilty of it as well. Can someone provide another link where we hear more after that phrase, if anything, just so we can claim there was nothing misleading by this edit?
I agree with you. I don't trust this man or like him in the least. However I would like to hear the whole thing..this is how things spiral out of control.
Bees it does not really matter what he said after that - the Republicans always "walk back" their BS - I am not misled by this being a snippet and am fully aware that he probably took it back immediately. It is very interesting in and of itself, since it comports exactly with what he is trying, in truth, to do to us.
Just go over to CSPAN.org to check out the full video. This is a clearly-highlighted clip with the headline, "Paul Ryan's Unfortunate Slip" -- of course, we know he cleaned it up after that, but the slip was indeed unfortunate.
Not the whole thing, but at least you get the question asked and his full answer before he moved on to the next question.
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/03/12/rep-paul-ryan-republicans-wont-give-up-on-destroying-the-health-care-system/
How the hell do you "clean up" something as obvious as that?!?
I must say, Danielofmo @16.4, that the entire statement does him no favors. In fact, I would venture that it makes it worse.
He says he won't go back on the tax increases, because (paraphrasing) 'what's law is law.' Yet, ObamaCare is the LAW that has already been all the way to the Supreme Court, and he is attacking it, trying to tear it down, trying to dismantle it. ObamaCare can still be misrepresented so they can get some mileage out of it, whereas the taxes of the typical poll answerer didn't go up recently.
he didn't clean it up. He doubled down and said the ACA was killing America and has to be destroyed.
So very true, that is EXACTLY what the Republiturds want to do, "destroy the health care system for the American people", at least one of them slipped up in all the lies and actually told the truth!
Mr. Bean rides again!
OMG...this is at least 47% as damning as Mr. Romney's ill-fated utterance...just sayin.
Suddenly, I am reconsidering my position pro gun control. :)
LOL. you may have to defend yourself and family against repoopers who want to kill for profit for their pimps.
give him a break, he is probably super tired from doing his P90X workout today, so his blood was flowing to his extremities rather than to his brain. hahahaha
Might as well be his brain...
no mistake. when you are tired.... THATS WHEN THE CENSOR SLEEPS & TRUTH COMES OUT.
This man is no favorite of mine by any stretch of the imagination, but I also don't like when a clip is cut off so rapidly. I want context from beginning to end before I hammer someone.
There seems to be a rash of these kinds of comments in this thread. No one is going all "We Did Build It!" on Ryan - although he richly deserves it. Are we having a laugh at his expense? Yes -- and he richly deserves that, too.
Empirelady: go up to the 16.xx series. There is a link to the full statement. The full statement by Ryan just makes it worse.
there is NOTHING he can say before or after that provides cover for that particularly gift-wrapped-bundled-and-packaged picture perfect framework of this twisted sh*ts ideaological postition on branding most people as expendable.
This is almost as goo as Bush's "The terrorists are always looking for ways to harm us and so do we".
Thank you Paul...
...For clearing THAT up!
he is a traitor to america and should be so charged and tried.
I agree with Beeslo. I am NO Paul Ryan fan, but I get a feeling we're missing the context with the abrupt editing.
You could always follow the links and go watch the whole clip all by yourself....or just whine.
you arent missing anything. he is an imbecile with a birdbrain that packages his realities into audible segments. one might also see the repoopliturd he is.
