Our show's director, Rob Katko, sends this animated Calvin and Hobbes strip as the Best New Thing in the World (ever). Me, I never thought Hobbes would sound so scary. (H/t HuffPo)
Never thought the tiger sounded like that

is it just me, or does the sound effects sound like it came out of a creepy recording studio from the 1940's?
Like from a classic monster movie in black and white?
yeh! It also sorta sounds like an old radio program.
Hobbes is a tiger, after all, Laura. They are supposed to sound scarey. :)
eye of the tiger + year of the tiger = watchout.
One of my old faves, makes sense the cuddly tiger sounds awesomely realistic and vicious.
The imagination of Calvin is so very vivid
It is good to note that this video is an unauthorized "fan" video, albeit one made by a professional animator. The video is based on one of the original Sunday strips, omitting the last two panels, which include dialogue.
One of the amazing things about the old strip was how Bill Waterston was able to give us a glimpse into the workings of the mind of a little boy who loves to role-play in his own rich fantasy world. In this particular strip, Calvin projects himself into a nature TV show (the video omits that detail)--and therefore, the growling does make sense.
