Reimagine 2012 with a Gingrich-Santorum (or maybe a Santorum-Gingrich) ticket.
Another poll shows overwhelming public support for universal background checks.
Gun group sues New York over its new gun regulations.
North Carolina drops its plan to issue pink-striped drivers licenses for undocumented immigrants.
Kansas Senator Pat Roberts: we must cut food stamps to save the program.
A GOP Congressman wants to know why the IRS spent taxpayer money on a "Star Trek" parody video.

Plain and simple, it is unthinkable.
You mean the Gingrich-Santorum ticket? Two egomaniacs, what could go wrong? /snark/
I've seen this movie before, but it was called DUMB AND DUMBER.
Here is a worthwhile idea!
We should to the same thing to gun buyers that is being done to women seeking an abortion. Many states now only have 1 abortion clinic. Let's have only 1 gun shop per state.
Many states require women to have an ultrasound before getting an abortion. Let's have people get shot before they can buy a gun.
Many states require extensive "counseling" before a woman can have an abortion. Let's require extensive counseling for gun purchasing.
Let's go further! If you are on food stamps you have to pee in a cup before you can buy a gun.
If you are on welfare you are not allowed to buy bullets.
If you don't want a background check done on you to buy a gun, than you can't vote because obviously you are not who you say you are and we have to cut down on fraud.
You can use a student ID to buy a gun but not a gun license.
Oh and protesters can stand outside gun shops with posters of bloodied gun shot victims, they can scream in the faces of those buying a gun and make them cry and they can carry around guns in jars of formaldahyde and throw them at people walking into the store...
Fred,
I think I love you! Great post!
Wonderful snark! High five!
One of the greatest posts in the history of the Internet. Should be required reading in the schools and, far more significantly, should be PASSED LEGISLATION!! Way to go, Fred!! THANK YOU! Great way to go into the weekend!
wonderful post. How about Politicians who used tax payers money growing up be made to pay it all back with interest. (Paul Ryan lost his father at a young age) he use SS and medicaid.
good job Fred. I wish that could be seen on TV. Next time run for congress. 174,000.00 per year, and you will have something to bring to the table.
Fred, I would say LOL, if some of these silly things were not happening or idiot politicans trying to get the things to happen.
We can make everybody a millionaire and then they will be in favor of tax breaks for millionaires. I'll sign up for that
$60K!?! For a video parody? I wish our representatives would show the same zeal chasing billions vs. approximately 1/3 of just one representatives annual salary.
how about cuting your staff and how many vacations do you get a year and they have the nerve to say the President takes to many days off. The President does more work in a day than these guys do in a week or more
There's a difference between "unity" and "bipolarity".
Cutting millions from the food stamp program to add to the billions in tax brakes for the rich is like stilling change from the homeless so you can get a free car wash or buy a few extra beers for the BBQ . Is that what we have become ? Is that what we are ?
yes lets cut the program. How dare they cut it. Most on this program are military families. We don't pay them enough. they need food stamps to eat. We so ready to send them off to war and when they come home the hell with them. Sham on the GOP. I only hope one day one of there family members wiwll have to go on food stamps
What was the question in the poll?
Question 22 in the National Poll:
Crickets. LOL
Here's a disconcerting story

Too bad their pollution will starve all those young brains of so much oxygen.
Gingrich/Santorum would have accomplished something remarkable, in that it would have made a ticket I would have liked even less than Romney.
But no, it couldn't have lasted. Newt would have spent too much time showing how much smarter than Rick he considered himself to be.
Gingrich/Santorum. Santorum/Gingrich. Why were Bachmann/Cain or Cain/Bachmann not considered? The GOP is not a political party. It is sitcom. A very, very bad sitcom.
you forgot Palin
Palin for Secretary of State.
#10.1 Who?
So let me get this straight...the IRS spends $60,000 to make a video for training that saves it $1.5 million, and a congressman is upset that what? It's a parody? He doesn't like Star Trek or Gilligan's Island? Forest for the trees, people.
They don't want to see it, and they don't care how much money it saved, they need a copy for the midterms as Obama's stupid video.
Gingrich/Santorum or Santorum/Gingrich. The Dream Ticket for all those hate groups in America. For all those anti-science, anti-women, anti-immigrant, anti-AMERICAN a-holes out there.
Senator Pat Roberts?
Interesting that his name would come up when we are reflecting on the Iraq War.
Wasn't Pat Roberts the senator who headed the committee that was supposed to investigate the justifications for the Iraq War? Wasn't he the senator who stone walled the investigation for absolutely as long as he could?
that was after his bank account began to swell
Quinnipiac for march 7th does show support for universal background checks BUT barely 50% for banning assault weapons (whatever they are), HCM or other gun control.
it strikes me as a bit ironic that Rachele and other gun control advocates will hype these numbers on background checks as if they were a real indicator of the mood of the country while decrying Fox and the right for cherry picking poll results.
And you will pretend assault weapons are just average every day hunting rifles while ignoring that hunting rifles are limited on the number of rounds they can carry. But hey why let facts get in the way of your fake outrage whines. Oh and there is a difference between hunting rifles and assault weapons hunting rifles are for hunting animals assault weapons are used to assault people that your government deems enemies. But we already know that you know the difference you just want to play dumb, because you need an assault weapon to protect your home because you can't shoot straight.
If they raise the minimum wage it would cut the SNAP budget because fewer people would need/qualify for assistance. Sounds like a win/win to me.
So want to see the Star Trek video.
Yes, and the Social Security office uses George Takei in character to persuade people that online business with S.S.S is very easy and convenient. What we're spending money for is the result, not the form. The Terminally Fact Challenged, and casually vicious, Republican population can't tell the difference.
A song for Friday office folks with the journalism cutie mark (YouTube) (Click lyric lines here if the pony swag is unintelligible).
Question: Tho it may still be too soon to talk about Mr. O*, is it okay to ask about this guy and the circumstances behind his leaving?

He'd make a dandy interview for Chris Hayes tonight.
.
* Not that I even want to, really.
Wow, my income is so low that I don't have to file taxes and I get a whopping $16/mo in food stamps. Pretty sure that's not going to break the budget. People that are not in these programs don't understand a damn thing about them.
just-john: thanks for bringing this up once more. I have noticed in the last two days that MSNBC/NBC has scrupulously avoided this and the Tomas Young story. I wonder why? Could it be that NBC/GE/Comcast are complicit in the rush to war in Iraq and now is covering it up? In my mind, Rachel and her team have lost my respect. This is a big story...certainly as big as the Menendez/Daily Caller, yet goes uncovered. Rochester12 shared the link a couple of days ago and I requested coverage, but nothing. Am I missing it or is this story too hot for NBC? Any other opinions?
There was a conspiracy, but it goes deeper than the media. We like to deny it now, but most of America simply did not want to hear it. We were in collective mode of behavior that is typical after an external attack. The defensive circle the wagons mode of unity. Most of us simply could not bring ourselves to challenge the group think that prevailed.
It was no accident that Donahue's ratings were cut in half when he started speaking the truth about Iraq. Recall the time. Remember how unpopular it was at the time to say anything that doubted the scare stories about Saddam Hussein? You got looks, not just like, "you are so naive," but "Wtf is wrong with you? I thought I knew who you were... no I have no idea- what do you want anyway- for America to be attacked again? Because you know if he had a nuke, Hussein sure as hell would try and set one off in a US city.... "
Remember those times? It wasn't all that popular to speak up. And people may have loved Donahue at one time, but people had a feeling as Letterman was telling O'Reilly- "that we were attacked and it was horrible, and that we wanted to do... something." It was like the schoolyard bullies had jerked our chains and we were falling for it. They wanted us to react with a "Hulk... Smash" kind of reflexive response, and most of us wanted information to confirm that behavior.
After all, we have frontal lobes and so we looked to information sources to give us the rationalizations for a reptilian lash out response. The crowds were eagerly lapping up everything at the FOX trough, and they were buying at Donahue's booth because frankly most of the public found it disagreed with their stomachs.
So Griffin was taken off of Donahue, then they made the requirements of more Right wing guests that Donahue spoke to Goodman about, after which he was ultimately let go. They were chasing ratings and envious of what Fox was doing. NBC/Universal's Bob Wright actually wanted to go right of Fox in order to better them in ratings.
Corporate media is about ratings. It is true that MSNBC and CNN have better scruples than FOX about how they get those ratings, but it would not matter if RM were reporting the most accurate news on the most important issues 5 years from now. If her ratings sucked, she would be canned.
It's that simple. The truth doesn't matter to NBC/Universal, if that is not what the public is tuning in to. The art of Maddow, Hayes and their peers is to present truth in a way that keeps people wanting more.
Some of us, me included prefer more meat and less fluff, but what they do is really a difficult balancing act. Pretty amazing really.
Maybe an interview with Donahue would be interesting, but Hayes would have to ask some hard questions that lift a bit of the veil over how content decisions are made. They'd have to have a senior former exec of a network willing to speak candidly about their decision making at the time. Would Donahue have presented his shows exactly as he did knowing what he knows today? Would an alternate strategy have been more effective at informing the US public? Or does he view it as hopeless either because of the group think of the US public, the unshakable death spiral of the FOX-Bush axis of information, or because GE had a conflict of interest and didn't want any threat to defense contracts?
The media's role in the Iraq really needs to be put under the magnifying glass because this line of defense in our republic was blown through as if it didn't exist. Donahue at MSNBC is a microcosm of the media madness.
Let me help you out, Steve Benen. Here is the link to the DemocracyNow story on Tomas Young with interview of Phil Donahue from yesterday. Care to follow-up?
